I owned the 1838 I made when I took the pics . Can I submit a pic or must Tim who owns it now be the poster ?

It is clear that I will have to go stage some pics .

All I have now is 'in progress' stuff .

Here's whatthe rules say.

Quote
You may post only one picture per cannon and it must be your cannon.  Sponsors may submit a picture of a cannon they built.

Clear?

So Spuddy, you may post a picture of your cannon.

Gary may post a picture of a cannon he built.

You can't post a picture of a cannon Gary built, but you can post a picture of your cannon.  If Gary built a cannon for you he can post a picture of what he built.   You can post a picture of the cannon you own, even if Gary built.

Understand?

In case you can't try this.

The person who owned the cannon when the picture was taken can post a picture.

If  you give the cannon to someone, then when the own it they can take a picture and can enter a picture.

Now if all three of you enter the same picture then the picture will be deleted since only one of you owned the cannon when the picture was taken.

Got it.

Are you baffled and confuse.  Understandable

I thought that's how the rules would be interpreted, but I wanted to see how it would be explained. ;)

Ultimately, this line sums it up nicely.

I don't think there's ever been a calendar picture of a cannon being manufactured (though you'd know better than I).  Could be kind of cool, especially since that's a big part of this board.

I don't think there's ever been a calendar picture of a cannon being manufactured ...

That would be interesting but video would be better than stills.  You might take a look at this series of web pages that show various steps in the construction of my 1/5 scale 24 pounder.  I have a barrel in my lathe right now; maybe I will do a short video of me filing.

This is a typical picture although most have a lot fewer chips visible.

I like those type of pictures and we have had them submitted....they just didn't get the votes.

Some of my most favorite pictures just never got the votes.

This one is my most favorite ever entered.

That's the price one pays when the decision is made by general popularity versus one man's tastes.

I wonder which way sells more calendars.

Doug,
As an experiment, assuming we get enough pix, put together a Moderator's Choice version as well as the results of the poll and see which one gets a better response.

That's a great pictorial!  I'd love to see some video as well, though I don't think we can have video printed on a calendar, unless you're a personal friend to Harry Potter. ;D Maybe a progression collage?

Maybe with so few entries, we won't have to worry about the number of votes!  Not that that's a good thing. :'(

So what you are saying George, is the moderators should make a selection of pictures to be voted on?

See what  I said Tim would be too easily swayed by pictures with cats in them.  Me on the other hand I have  higher standards and would not be so easily swayed. It would take envelopes full of cash $12-$14 in small umarked bills and tickets to exotic holiday locations such as the Blackfeet casino in Browning, at least, anonymously and gratuitously donated of course.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like cats, I do.  I just like dogs better.   ;D ;D

The original question was does a committee have a better eye for things than an individual.  My suggestion was to select the calendar pictures by vote as in the past (the committee) and also, have you (and Tim if he wants) select a calendar's worth of pictures as Moderator's (that's one moderator, not a committee of two) Choice, although each mod could submit his own choice giving three lists.

Then decide if the committee choices were better or the one man's opinion choices were better.  Just an experiment.

...

An individual would presumeably select a series of pictures based on some criteria or a theme, be it related shots or a representitive selection of the best examples of photography.

...
Well if there is a cat in the picture it would get Tim's vote.

On the contrary, it must be both a good shot of the cannon AND a good shot of the cat!   ;D
That is to say, BOTH criteria must be met.

When would the moderators choice/  After the big vote, I would assume so as to not influence the group.

Let me see if i can pull up the old calendar polls and send one Tim and let him make his choices.  I'll do the same and we'll see what come up.

Tim,

You game?

I post the links to the three polls.  Just right click and copy the picture url you like and post the picture.  13 pictures.

Since it's Moderator choice one vote, Pick the cover and twelve others.

Here is the link to the 2010 poll.  http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,183014.msg1098893638/topicseen.html#msg1098893638

Since I have that page up, I start by showing my choices first.

Double D, we sure do like your choice for the cover.  Wow, look at that composure, balance, big artillery, small artillery, a human with some humanity displayed, resting, not sweating under that Big Sky hauling 137 pound concrete jug projectiles.  A lull, a pause in the bombardment, a respite for the tired artillerymen.  We like it!  Wink, wink, wink.  You like it, but, just as with our Breech of Brooke-being-turned, artistic shot, the year before, what looked good to us didn't have enough explosive power to capture general membership votes.  Whatever we enter this year, you can bet on it being an action shot!

Mike and Tracy
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

I didn't know whether this one, being carbide and not BP, would meet the criteria.

Clearly the better of the two photographs.
simpler, good perspective of both cannon and cat.  etc

Would a picture of my circa 1890 cast iron firecracker cannon be an acceptable entry for the contest?
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.
