308 Win,150 Hornady SST. Suggestions
« on: August 17, 2010, 05:53:43 PM »
I have a good load for this with a Sierra 165 hpbt. Now on to the next load. Anyone have any suggestions? I want to use RL 15 with it since thats what I'm using with the 165's. Open to suggestions. Thanks.

it aint re15 but my favorite 308 load with a 150 is 51 grains of h414 and a ww primer. With sierra or hornady 150s that load shoots well in all of my 308s. Keep in mind that that charge fills the case right to the top though and some brass (military) wont except more then 50.

Never tried RL-15. Super accurate load for 150 to 155 gr bullets is 43 grs IMR 4895. If you want a real deer thumper try 46 grs IMR 4895 and a 125 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.

Try 42.0 grains of RL15 as a starting load.  I find good accuracy across a number of rifles at 43.0 grains of RL15 with both the 150 and 165/168 grain bullets.

I have had EXCELLENT results in my 308 with the SST's and 43.5gr RL 15 it is dead on accurate "my" best group to date .68" 3 shot cold bore group but I'm a bit shaky more than enough for deer hunting.
