GlockenChicken
« on: August 18, 2010, 12:38:04 PM »
                                  ???
Round these parts, we use Glocks to take alligators.

Just tie a very strong, very heavy, stainless steel salt water game fishing leader to the lanyard holes on a Glock.

Load and chamber a round, and stuff the Glock into a chicken [dead or alive … it don’t matter].       :o

Use a stiff boat rod and reel to fling the GlockenChicken toward a gator hole.

When the Gator whacks the GlockenChicken, you will hear a "boom".

Then wait for the bang, and start reeling in … Gator and all.              ::)

At the risk of starting a controversy, shouldn't the string be on the trigger as well?  ???   ;D

Surprisingly, there are folks who would manage to still have their danged finger on the trigger the whole time !      :o

I have a dedicated file on NDs [negligent discharges, nee "accidental" discharges].       :'(

Guns are safe ... people aren't.             :(
Anyone who lives long enough and handles guns enough will eventually have a ND.
We just have to keep hammering the safety message.           8)

So what was the point of this thread?

Just a creative way of saying Glocks are unsafe?

You got a good deal on emoticons at Wal-Mart?

Southerners are very creative when it comes to killin' critters?

Too many beers, ir off his meds? He's already exercised poor judgement in selecting a substandard caliber for his forum name, so I say meds. ;D

Because I appreciate, use, and even like Glocks, I look for ways to get folks to think about and focus on trigger finger safety.

NDs [ADs] hurt all gun owners and give the gun grabbers more ways to beat their anti gun war drums.

So the Glockenchicken thing was about trigger control?

Alligators are not known for trigger discipline. :)

I'll be even more careful. I did have a ND once, about 20 years ago on my brother's land. My thumb slipped off the hammer of a Win 1892 clone while decocking it after loading a single .38 spl wadcutter load. It went downrange safely with some elevation, and my brother-in-law said 'I'll bet that goes for miles'.
I tried to explain about the ballistics of the .38 spl wadcutter, but the damage was done. My brother, sister and brother-in-law were all recent converts to liberalism because it fit their social agenda.

Yep.
It was intended to be a tongue in cheek fun way to get the Glock and the anti - Glock folks thinking about trigger finger safety.

What could make the Glock fire inside a chicken inside an alligator?
Do Glocks really go off ... "accidentally" ... or is it really .. "negligently".

If my Lab knocks the over the shotgun leaning against the tree, and it fires, that is an "accidental" discharge ...
... for the Lab ... who was just doing what Labs are supposed to do: be curious and investigate.

If I knock the over the shotgun leaning against the tree, and it fires, that is a "negligent" discharge.
In both cases, I was negligent for leaving a round in the chamber.

The problem with Glocks isn't the gun; but rather, misplaced trigger fingers and improper holsters.
If you are going to carry a Glock, you have to be constantly aware and careful.
If you are not willing [and able] to be constantly aware and careful, then, ... there are better choices.

For many folks, a DAO or a DA / SA really is a better choice.
The primary question is whether the shooter is:
... willing and able to spend the time and $$$ to master the weapon; ... and ...
... committed to maintaining the necessary mental alertness ... free of distractions.

There is reason that military officers have assigned drivers;
[arguably] the Officer is concentrating on other matters which would distract him from driving.

It is not a "good -bad" issue.
It is about being able to stay focused on one task and avoid distractions.

Einstein may have been the smartest man in the world, but should he have carried a Glock ?
Of course not, ... that would be the issue for his dedicated body guards.

We have to be brutally honest with ourselves when making these decisions.

It was a take off on the Cajun cuisine TurDucHen, a delicious mostly Thanksgiving tradition where they stuff a chicken in a duck in a turkey, all injected with Cajun marinades and then deep fry it in a huge turkey fryer.
As the say in Cajun Country, "make yo' tongue slap the roof o' yo' mouf, so bad it give you a brain concussion."
