Rooster Cogburn will always be John Wayne, and vice versa.  Jeff B. needs to find himself another role.  He will never measure up.

I really  have trouble seeing Jeff Bridges in that role. Tommy Lee Jones, yes, Tom Selleck, yes, I reckon Clint is getting too old.  Just have to see I reckon. POWDERMAN.  ??? ???

Isn't JB an anti gun nut job?

How or why does he keep doing gun movies?

There's been a few remakes of the Dukes movies.
All flops.
I predict this knotheads version will also.

I'm a Jeff Bridges fan. As long as he plays Rooster Cogburn his way and not try to imitate JW its ok by me. Now I definitely dont wanna see Glenn Campbell acting again  ::) I also wasn't impressed with the lil chick either.  Kate Hepburn was good. As was Robert Duvall.

would be better than the BS they make now like vampire crap and transformers  ???

Of course not. Jeff Bridges will always be "The Dude", His Dudeness; bowling and drinking white Russians.

They sure can't improve it. I'm always disappointed in remakes, but it will be better than what todays writers come up with, which is pure garbage. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I though you were kidding so I looked it up. ::) They just cant come up with an original idea can they?

It's been long enough, why dont they do a complete remake of the original Star Wars Trilogy?

I spent the last 4 days working in Ft. Smith.

We finished early and I toured the Ft. Smith history museum.

That connected the dots.....with True Grit.

It's a very interesting place with loads of western history.

Lucas hasn't gotten around to selling us the Ultra Super Premium Director's Cut No Really It's Better Than The Last Director's Cut Special Edition on DVD yet (followed by the Blu-ray version 6 months later so you can buy it all over again).  When those sales dry up he'll remake it (again), and proclaim for the umpteenth time that this was how he REALLY envisioned it.

Han shot first dang it!

Funnily enough though, I have no clue about whatever movie is referenced in the thread (just not much into westerns), but for some reason the vision of a True Blood knock off called True Grits sprung to mind.   :D

I think we should cast the Star Wars remake right now...

Matt Damon-Luke Skywalker
Ben Affleck-Han Solo
Rosie Odonnel-Chewbacca

Any other ideas?

If they did it quick (because she still looks good but there ain't but so much miles left on the tires) Jennifer Aniston would make a good Princess Leia.  She even put on the outfit once in an episode of friends :D.

Been there also. Definately a good tour. I liked the quotes all over by Judge Parker.

I screwed up and started the same thread somewhere else early this morning, oops!

My opinion is that it is a really big risk to try to remake a classic like this that stared a western movie icon like John Wayne. When I saw this article I immediately thought of the fiasco,(imo), when they remade "Montie Walsh" with Tom Selleck. I'm a fan of Selleck's western movies but his remake of the classic taking the place of Lee Marvin was a flop in the eyes of many. Not because of Selleck so much, but just because it's really hard to improve on perfection. I also have nothing against Jeff Bridges, but he is no John Wayne. Those are some really big boots to fill. Seems like they are taking a big risk remaking any of Wayne's movies. With the sentiment that most people have toward Wayne, I would think this movie will have a hard time getting any traction right from the start.

Instead of remaking westerns like they have been doing lately I wish they would come up with something new. There are so many excellent books that could be adapted to a screen play.

Right now I am reading "One Eyed Dream" it is the third installment in the original Titus Bass series by Terry Johnston.

I always though the first book of this series "Carry the Wind" would make an excellent movie if done correctly.

There are still a few Louis Lamour books that could be done. I think "The Sackett Brand" would be cool.

Louis Lamour books too movies?? LOTS of 'em! The ones I would like to see made into a couple of movies are the ones with Chick Bowdrie, Texas Ranger. Always thought Sam Elliot or Jeff Osterhage (The Sacketts) would do the part well. Hard to compete with John Wayne. Don't know that I could do it without feelin humbled somehow. Always thought Under the Sweetwater Rim would be a good one as well. Yep, ALOT of good material out there to be used. Sure would like to see more movies portraying the American indian as a person and not a begger/thieve that has been done in some of the ol school westerns.Bury my heart at wounded knee, dances with wolves, came close to what I was thinking of. there are some things that sould never be messed with and true grit is one of them.

Hollywood has lost every bit of its creativity & has been resorting to remake old classics for the last 20 or so years .

Forgot about Chick Bowdrie that would make a cool western if they cast the part right. I cant remember the name of the book he was in. Was it Bodrie's Law?

Concerning Louis Lamour books I think "Last of the Breed" could be a great movie. I don't know who to suggest to play lead however.

To be perfectly honest---blunt!
The last few years of John's movies were crap---made for the sole purpopse of getting him out of debt.
It is further acknowledged that the Oscar was for him, not the movie.
John made two good movies towards the end of his career---none of which came close to Stagecoach or The Searcher.
The Shootist was first rate though.
If the remake is more true to the tale it should be good. When writers and directors start messing with Louise's tales they end up junk.
IMO.

There is a whole multitude of young people out there that don't know or care who John Wayne was. This will probably make the new "True Grit" a success. Probably not a blockbuster but profitable. Kids go tho the movies to be going to a movie and how it is promoted will have a lot to do with profitability. Bridges is an excellent actor and I will go see the movie. I DO NOT expect him to replace John Wayne in that role but I want to see how the story is told this time. Hope they find a better Ned Pepper than Robert Duvall delivered in the original.
