I think it quite petty when bow hunters of today are using compounds with costly sights, releases and ranging sights plus hundreds of dollars of specialized equipment to hunt deer, yet quake in fear that somebody who needs to may employ a crossbow. Obviously, they can easily have $1,000 or better in a bow + specialized equipment, which rather takes away from their claimed "purist" status. I could understand the woden long bow user if he/she claimed purist status, but not the guy who has a multi-gageted compound with enough extras to look like something from a science fiction novel. I might take an interest in bow hunting, except that a dozen years ago I suffered a torn rotator cuff muscle where it has attenuated away, so there is no way I can draw a bow, long or compound.
I usually use a 30/30 for regular rifle season, but I have no quarrel if my neighbor wants to use a .270 Win or a .375 H&H magnum..that's his business.
As Bubba said, hunters numbers are dropping and we need to encourage all who want to hunt, regardless of certain needs...let's not whine about petty stuff.
