308 x 444 - Loads
« on: August 21, 2010, 03:59:49 PM »
Hi All,

I will be picking up a H&R Single shot with a 308x444 barrel next week.  I am good on the procedure for forming the 308x444 brass from the 444 Marlin brass.  I have not been very successful in finding pubished load data for this cartridge.  Only load I found was for a 165 grain nosler with H4350.  Any suggestions on where to look for load data on this cartridge would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

BB

Why be difficult, when with a little extra effort you can be impossible?

308X 444 is the generic name for 309JDJ
In Cartridges of the World, 11th Edition, page 248 there is loading data.
-165 grain Soft point  IMR 4350  52.0 Grains  2430 FPS  1775 Foot pounds  SSK / Maximum load SSK barrels only
This loading data is base on T/C contender frames and velocities are pistol length.
I think you will see higher speeds with rifle length tubes.
In the same book on Page 59 there is loading data for 30-40 Krag.
It shows
-165 grain soft point IMR 4350  47 grains 2500 FPS 2290 Foot pounds
As I said the longer barrels are going to give you higher velocities.
Good luck.
