Larry,

It's tough to go off size, pad print size.  If it's a big print, you should have a nice bear.  Bill is right, I go off weight, mine compared to the track, take aplace, or make a place where you can see where Mr. bear has stepped.  follow suit and see how far you sink into the dirt/mud........Before camaras, that was the only wy I could judge abear and his or her size was off the tracks and scat left.  If you can get a camara out there then you will get a good look at waht is leavint he track.........Pete

I have three different places that are far apart from each other were i seen fresh tracks were my size 13" sorrel boots would just fit the paw prints.  One spot was so fresh the light snow was falling and we just came across the fresh tracks.  A blackbear with this size track is unheard of but i have three different places that have them?  I'm thinking a bear of 350lbs ++++ maybe over 400lbs.  If its any bigger i'd have to kick him in his @ss and make him chase me to the car and shoot him there. Meaning i can't imagine dragging it out when its that big.  There are trophy sized big bear out there and there big because there smart.

We followed one cub in one area and seen his droppings go from a cub to the size of a 1/2+ 5 gallon bucket size dump many years later.  He's a really big bruin now and smart now too we chased him for many years then deceided to let him go.
