With a name like slowpoke slim I would think that the GM 6.2 would be right up your alley. Anyway they are bullet proof and will run when others won't but they are a little lacking in the top end. If a soldier can't tear em up than they got a place in my yard. ;D

Well I guess as long as you keep your expectations LOW, go for it.

 ;D ::) ::)

The 6.2L was final proof to the world that GM has NO IDEA how to build a diesel engine. You'd have thought they learned their lessons with that fiasco engine they tried to build in the 70's. They got a little smarter with the duramax, it's an Isuzu, which is a step up from a GM!

 ;D

At least when Dodge went to a diesel truck engine, they had the brains to use Cummins to design and build it.

I'll add this. The dealership my brother in law worked at would not sell a 6.2 equiped truck. They did not hold up well and caused more problems to owners than they cared to deal with. BIL was a GM master tech and would just laugh at anybody who came to him with problems. The U.S. gov't had priority on replacement parts, as I think they should. This made it sketchy fixing your truck some days. I think this was the main reason they wouldn't sell them in the end.

He will stand up and cheer about the Dura Max, more so when coupled with an Allison tranny.

  The 6.2's weren't all that bad of a diesel.  I've had/have several, and all of them were decent if you took care of them and didn't abuse them.  By today standards, they are down on power, but they are decent for fuel milage, and mine have got the job done.

  When they first came out in 1982, they had some head gasket problems, that was traced to gasket supplier.  They were quickly fixed free.

  First year motors got free replacement injection pumps too.

  Early starters would break the noses when used with auto trannys, as the flex plate would flex too much when started in freezeing weather of the cold states.  ALL were upgraded to a bigger nose on the starter.

  Early auto trannys used the same rivited torc converter at the gas, and it was found they needed to be welded, as turning the diesel off, shook the rivets loose.

  These were the main changes, and were soon taken care of...

But they never did anything about the PMD overheating, After replacing my dad's twice I installed a remote with heat sink.

  I'm drawing a blank on what the PMD is?

Pump Mounted Driver. Mounted on the injector pump. More injector pumps pulled cause of bad pmd's than bad injector pumps but I am just guessing When they go out there is no fuel from the injector pump

  lol  I was gonna say i never replaced one...lol

  The early injection pumps had the advance piston wear problems, but the was taken care of pretty fast, and all the bad pumps were replaced free.

  Thanks for the info,
