That's funny.  I'm the other way around.  I hate fielding brass or looking for it in weeds or snow.  All mine are extractor.  I just sold two ejector barrels...45-70 and .30-30.

+1. However, I have to admit that this is just my preference. Nothing inherently wrong with either one.

Well it is entertaining at the range to have a mix of ejector/extractor barrels.  Need to remember which barrel is which or don't remove your shootin glasses.

It would be nice if the ejector could be manually switched off for range use and switched back on for field use.  But since it can only be one way, I opt for the ejector.  I don't care if I lose a case or two when hunting, the case isn't my main focus:  the game is.

+2  I really like not shuffling around in the brush for my brass.  lol  I do prefer ejectors on my shotguns though.

Tacklebury, I too like ejectors for shotguns.  My pumps go birding and the single shots for bunnies and squirrels.

, the case isn't my main focus:  the game is.

If you read my signature line "......and make the first shot good", you should have all day to pluck that case out and shuck another round in.  My bolts and levers are growing hair in the rack.  I haven't had them hunting in at least 3 years.  It's been Handi extractors.  I'm very comfortable not having a quick second shot.  As a kid, I know I slung lead all over, but after I grew up, at about 50, ;D, I never touch a trigger till I'm apsolpositraction definindom sure where that bullet is going.....if not, the game walks.  I didn't get a deer last year.  I let two walk due to range and light conditions.

+3, even modified my 223 so the eject was just an extract,,and I'm with Pete,,just learn to make the first shot count and ya don't need a quick second,
Last year that teen boy in my avatar, made a second shot (the kill shot) from an extractor 7-08 on a white tail, so there's plenty of time to work it,,you don't loose much pulling one if you have the other already in your hand. I mean after all, it's still a break action,, ;)

I find that hot brass + cold snow or autumn leaves = many losses.  lol  I try to stretch my reloading budget a long way and brass is getting harder to come by!

If extractors were such a big problem, there'd be millions of unhappy Contender and Encore owners, they get along fine with extractors!!  ::)

I've got a couple of Contenders and an Encore as welll as a flock of Savage 24's and don't like the extractors, but it's something that you just have to live with.  I much prefer ejectors and wish that TC used them.  Again:  for range use extractors are fine, but for field use they suck, especially when using gloves.

I like the OP, much prefer ejectors, I have only one extractor and thats a newer .44 Mag barrel with the correct bore diameter. Give me ejectors over an extractor any day, each to his own preferences....<><....:)

Add me to the ejector lovers.  I automatically put my left hand over the breech when I open the rifle, to catch the shell.  After an experience of having shot between a big black bear's feet to try to change his mind that I could be lunch, I sure felt naked before I had the Handi reloaded!

Bears were not in season yet and I didn't want to have to mess with all the Alaska Fish & Game requirements for shooting one in self defense....

I want an ejector for larger things that have a tendency to bite back...I want the chamber cleared quickly. plus I test fire loads and keep the pressures down a bit so there isn't any chance of sticking...and extractors for bench and varmints so I don't have to chase brass.

Luck

I prefer the ejectors myself, but have both.  The extractor would be better if it pushed the case out farther, that's for sure.  It does get interesting when using both at the range, one of my 3 maxie barrels is extractor and using both usually means chasing brass from one of the ejectors after I switch.  DP

All my Handis are ejectors, won't have anything else.  When at the range if I don't want the brass to fly I simply put my left hand behind the scope and catch the brass.  But when hunting I don't want to mess with pulling the brass out I want it gone, so I can drop in a fresh shell.  The fact my TCs have extractors is why they never go into the field.  Only the TCR in .338 sometimes goes for winter Moose hunts, when the bears are in hybernation.  Plan on leaving later today for a hunt in the 40 mile area.  Hunting Grizzly and using my Handi 30-06 with ejectors.  If it did not have the ejectors I would be using a Ruger Bolt Action.
