Rem. 700 in 7MM Mag.
« on: August 24, 2010, 12:58:07 AM »
Can anyone give me some info on a Rem ADL 7MM Mag that was passed down from my dad? What I do know is that it was bought by my Uncle in the early 70's when a box of Rem. ammo was $7.50. It has the old style sights, a Universal 4X scope with leather lens caps, leather sling made in Germany and a BLUED Stainless Steel barrel. My Uncle bought it new in a gun shop. I had an old Rem. catalog that said the 700 could be ordered from the factory at that time with a 4X Universal scope. It is in excellent condition and has had no more than 80 rounds through it. The scope base and rings have no manufacture's name on them. I would like to know if some one might know the approx. value and any other info. I have no intention of selling it, I have a Grandson that I hope to pass it on to. Thanks for any help.   Stan

I've got the same rifle.  Right around the same age, mine's been shot considerably more than that though.  My grandpa gave it to me a couple of years ago when he decided he was done chasing elk.  It's one of the best shooting rifles I own, it seems to shoot just about any ammo well, hand loaded or factory.  Aside from that there isn't anything special about the ADL's, they are the cheapest version of the 700, you can still get brand new ones with a 3x9 scope from Cabela's for about $500 when they have a sale.

I know the ADL is a cheaper rifle, but didn't know if the blue stainless barrel added any value to the rifle. I read an articule several years ago and if memory serves (and it has let me down a few times) said that to make the stainless barrel more acceptable that it was coated with copper then coated with tin then blued because shiney just wasn't in at that time. I haven't shot it in years and probably won't for a good while. Thanks for the input.   Stan

I have one of the very same rifles but have a 3x9x50 leupold on it. I finally shot it out it lost it's accuracy, So I rebarreled it with the best shilen barrel they make in SS I had the barrel made to 26" had the action blue printed. talk about a shooter. I had a barke installed for the range and a cap for hunting . I doubt I will shoot this one out at 73 LOL. I just bought another 700 it's all ingraved and is in immaculate shape. I got it real cheap. I haven't shot it yet. We'll see. Lou
