Up to about a year ago I would not have even considered a domestic car company car. I am pretty much a die hard Honda fan and have had great luck with four Hondas. But, everything I am seeing and hearing about the newer Fords has perked my interest. For one thing Ford has done well without stimulus money. The second and to me more important thing is that it appears that Ford has sunk some serious money into R&D that is now paying off and have made a REAL commitment to improving overall quality of there product. It appears to me that Ford really does have a world class product now.

They have a new little 40mpg car I may consider.  Ford is the only domestic have ever (or will ever) own.

I have always bought Ford and Dodge trucks.  I currently own a Ford F-350 duelly, for hauling my camper.  And I will say if I ever buy another truck it will probably be a Ford.  But the one I am currently driving will most likely last me for the rest of my days.

As for cars, Ford and Dodge are the only ones that makes the kind of cars I would drive.  But at $140,000.00 the Ford GT is a bit too spendy for me.  The Dodge Viper is a close second, but again too speendy.  I like High Performance Sports Cars, not muscle cars, but truely well handling sports cars.  There is a Mazda RX-8, a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, and a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Spyder, sitting in my driveway right now.  The Spyder is mine.

Michelle and I sometimes fight over who is going to drive the Mazda RX-8.  I like it on long trips.

2001 Ford Ranger, 200,000+ miles and still runs very well. The only breakdown type repair I have had was a gasket failed in the AT. Other than that it has been oil changes, brake pads, and other std maintenance.

As a straight male I wouldn't drive a GM product.

No, I didn't know that.

I like Ford, always have; I own two Ford stations wagons now (well, on is a Mercury). Lately, Ford has done some great work. They really started rolling with the Fusion, and esp. with the 2005 Mustang - an absolute home-run if there ever was one. Has anyone looked at the 2011 'Stang? Over 400 rear-wheel HP in the V8, and 300 HP - with 30mpg EPA numbers! - in the V6. I want one. And it looks great - the dash looks just like the '67 289 'Stang I learned to drive on, and owned through my late 20s (thanks, Dad!)

Here's hoping GM thrives, too.

I've observed that the Subaru Forrester is favored by lesbians. Strange; I like them, wanting a somewhat larger wagon (see below). It could be I'm a Lesbian trapped in a man's body...

Well, I'm not too likely to buy one now because I bought a four-wheel drive Ford Ranger back in March and I like the Ford that I've got.

Quote from yellowtail3:
"It could be I'm a Lesbian in a man's body..."

Yellowtail,
Maybe you are like this old cowboy:

An old cowboy dressed to kill with a cowboy shirt, hat, jeans, spurs, and chaps went to a bar and ordered a drink.

As he sat sipping his whiskey, a young lady sat down next to him. After she ordered her drink, she turned to the cowboy and asked him, "Are you a real cowboy?" To which he replied, "Well, I have spent my whole life on the ranch, herding cows, breaking horses, mending fences. I guess I am."

After a short while, he asked her what she was. She replied, "I am a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about women. As soon as I get up in the morning I think of women, when I eat, shower, watch TV, everything seems to make me think of women."

A short while later she left and the cowboy ordered another drink. A couple sat down next to him and asked, "Are you a real cowboy?" To which he replied, "I always thought I was, but I just found out that I'm a lesbian."

I think you may be right, pardner... I've got those symptoms!

So do a multitude of other corporations as well as churches. When it comes to money a fags dollar is the same as a straight dollar. Do you not cash a paycheck because a fag might of held that dollar you get in change? And no, I am not a fag.

Alas, it may be a while before I get another Ford. My current one is doing fine. The re-designed Explorer that is still in development won't be available on the used market for several years so I won't be able to buy one of those. Most likely, I will have a Subaru as my next car.

As for "domestic" car companies, Ford is the only one I will even consider.

(By the way, GM is still owned 61% by the US government. The loans they "paid back in full" were paid back by the excess of money that was given to them by the government. This claim of having made a profit, while technically true because of the way a P&L statement works only masks symptoms a company in trouble. I will be very interested to see how successful their IPO is, and what kinds of investors are drawn to this company. In effect, GM still owes US about 43billion and Canada about 8billion. Considering that it was worth less than Bed, Bath and Beyond (about 5billion) before it was taken over, the idea of an IPO that defrays the 61% ownership stake seems a bit optimistic. But in a set of transactions where creative accounting is the key to making everything appear to work, it's not really much of an obstacle.)

I don't care if a fag has held a dollar that goes into my pocket, but I try my best not to spend my money with any business that gives money to further their cause.  I also try my best not to give my dollars to any business, church or any other organization that supports murdering unborn babies and or is anti 2nd Amendment.  But hay, that's just me... You do what you like with your money.  Just don't come crying to me when one day you turn on the boob tube and there is a fag on every show and the only hunting or shooting you are allowed to do is on your X-Box.

What keeps me buying and suporting FORD is that they aint government motors! All of my vehicles are Ford except my toyota 4x4, and I'm thinking of painting a Ford emblem on it! Or painting a Toyota emblem on the others!  ;)

We have just over 150k miles on the two vehicles we own ('03 Chrysler PT Cruiser and '01 Dodge Dakota) and I hope to put at least another 150k on them before I have to replace them.   When I have to replace them I will most likely buy used anyway.  When you buy new you loose a couple grand as soon as the front wheels leave the lot.   I do like some of the new vehicles FORD is putting out but like I said I will do all that I can to keep my money from paying for the things that I morally appose whenever possible.

p.s.; My favorite kind of vehicle... one that is payed off in full.  ;D

I like the new Taurus.  I've owned GM cars for a while now, but I can't say that I'm very interested anymore.  My biggest problem is that I have NO money.  My investments are tanking, the value of my house is off at least 20%, probably more, my savings are gone, I'm basically screwed.

When are the Keynsianists going to figure out that Government Motors, or any government run business, is inefficient.

What now?  Give me $10k to buy an electic go cart that costs $41K?  Just like the post office.  Business off?  Raise rates!!!  Now that generates loyal customers!!!!

Here's some math:  buy a Focus loaded for about $17K.  Take the other $14K and buy gas.  Drive 168,000 miles in a car that fits 4, works, and lasts.

BTW, it doesn't drive your electric bill up $60 per month either.  Add $60 per month for 48 months (60,000 miles), and you'll have enough money to buy another 34,000 miles worth of gas.

So, you'll have to drive your new toy car $200,000 to break even.  Whe here thinks that a first generation electric car is going to last 200K anyway?

I drive pickups. After I got burned really bad by Ford Motor Co. and their dealer on a new '02 F-250, I will never deal with them again. I got POWER STROKED!!...big time. I traded that piece of junk off for a Dodge 2500 Quad Cab and couldn't be happier with it. If I buy another, it will be a Dodge. I never have been able to talk myself into paying the extra for the union entitlements and wages to get a GM,(government motors), truck.

Sharke, sounds like you and I are in the same boat.

Another cost you have to factor in with the e-cars is the cost of replacing those hi-tech batteries and I don't believe any of the car manufacturers have come up with a battery that will last more than a couple years before it craps out and won't take/hold a charge.

  • IF ONLY I COULD GO BACK-I WOULD BE A MOUNTAIN MAN!
We have always had great service out of GM products.
Wouldn't have a Dodge on a bet.
Had a power joke, never again!
Until a company puts a CAT in a pickup I will stick to my gas motors.

I feel that anyone who buys a new car/truck these days from any MFG is a fool.
There is to many good used ones with low miles out there to have to pay the retail price of a new one.

My sister-in-law has an early Toyota Prius which is around ten years old with well over 100K. It is still doing great with the original battery pack. I think it has lasted more than a couple of years. I also know of a company that has a fleet of around 20 of them, most with over 200K with no battery problems as of yet. Worth the money??? I don't know but the battery packs last for a number of years.

"More likely to buy a Ford?" It took two of them to teach me a lesson. I'm kind of a slow learner but all I can say is "Never Again."
