well this goes back some ..but i bought a 90 festiva [made in korea ] i think..friends with real fords an chevies laughed an told me id never learn..
speedometer on it broke at 330 thousand.. i drove it two yrs more after that..clean air ,oil an fuel..these same friends went thru several vehicles while i had that car..
now fords other small  car [not fiesta,, but can t recall what they called it].. but it at time it was fords best selling smaller car.. it had the same 4 cylinder mill as fords small ranger truck..
any way .i could not get 200 thousand out of either car or small  ranger truck..
my son an insurance adjuster, said he never saw that motor get 200 thousand..
now im known to get more miles than most outa a motor..
clutches depend on how its used.. timing belts need replacing by a hundred thousand..
unless you like setting on the side of the rd..
im glad if it turns out ford is making a better homegrown product.. but ive probably bought my last new
car or truck..good luck though ,..hope it pans out for you..slim

Did you know that Ford condones and even helps promote homosexuality?

And GM uses money stolen from the American people to produce inferior garbage and advance the socialist agendas of those who are more of a threat to this nation than a few limp wristed pansies.
So what's your point?

My last two new vehicle purchases were Fords and next will be also.
I severed any use for a new GM products long ago and all this bailout crap just reinforces my stand.
I own a Dodge truck with a diesel but would most likely never buy a new one, not only for political reasons but because although they have a great drive train the rest of the vehicle is very substandard.

My wife has never been Brand Loyal , she has owned , Honda , Nissan, VW , Chevy, and maybe a few I missed.(whoever gives her the best deal at the time)

I have always been a ford Truck Guy , never bought anything else for Farm or construction vehicle.
Will drive my 250 V10 till body falls off, and replace with another Ford , They have always done right by me.

Now for For Cars , that's another matter - I would love to own a 1965,  66, 67 GTO.

  • "I ain't never been killed in my life."
I assumed that this thread was started as a joke about the Chevy popup adds that started about a month ago. But you know how it goes when guys start talking about vehicles. Everyone has a story.

It's kinda hard to keep politics out of the discussion when politics take over the auto industry and even promote their brand over another like they did with the Toyota bashing and their plug-in toy cars.

Everyone has their own reasons for picking a particular brand or type of vehicle. My Dodge pickup was made in Mexico. I don't have a problem with Dodge over that because it was politics that drove them to make them there instead of the US. I have a problem with politicians, trade agreements, taxes and unions. GM bowed to union demands, went broke and we bailed them out. Same with Dodge.
I also boycott companys that promote agendas and ideologies that I don't agree with. If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything. Sometimes you just have to take a stand even if all it does is make you feel better about yourself. If everyone did that we might be in better shape today......Maybe!

I won't buy GMs cause they cost more than Dodge or Ford. I won't buy Ford cause they burned me so bad back in '02/'03. I could not sue them because they falsified the computer history on a junker new truck I bought and lemon laws are too strict to go after them on that.
That and the fact that Ford doesn't have a diesel motor that can even compare to the Cummins. That's why they keep changing them. I had to find that out the hard way. I know others have had better experiences with Fords than I did, but I will never go back after what they put me through.

If anyone is interested in why I won't buy another Ford, you can read this post that I pasted here from another thread.

Re: Cummins vs Powerstroke

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will never buy another Ford after my experience with a new 2002 7.3 Powerstroke. I GOT POWERSTROKED !!  At about 15,000 miles the check engine light came on and I took it in to get it fixed. They kept it for 2wks to," fix a broken plug on a censor", they said. I ran out of gas out side of town in the late model Taurus loaner they gave me cause the fuel gauge was broke. After I got it back, the truck ran like crap and blew black smoke and I had to rev it up and slip the clutch to get it to move in the 1st of the 6 manual gears. They insulted me and told me I didn't know how to drive a diesel eventhough the General Manager of the dealership killed the motor twice just trying to get it going from a dead stop in 1st gear. They wouldn't do anything about it at the dealer so I took it somewhere else. Come to find out from the computer history on the truck that Ford had rebuilt the left side of the motor complete with new head, and everything on the left side. I don't know if I have ever been so angry in my life. I called Ford customer service and they and the dealer just blew me off. Inside of 30,000mi the clutch pedal linkage came apart while I was driving and the pedal fell on the floor. Had to pull over and yank it out of gear and call a tow truck. After they "fixed it", it was so hard to push down on the clutch it was blowing my knee out, painful. The alternator went out, call a tow truck. The shifter knob came off in my hand. The way the shifter is set up just stinks, hard to shift. I just hated that truck and dreaded driving it. I put up with it for about 2yrs and traded it in on a new Dodge 2500 Quad Cab in 2004. I LOVE THE CUMMINS. I only have 89,000 on the Dodge so far and it has never given me a problem. That little inline 6cyl doesn't warm up as fast as a V8 in the winter, but I can live with that. It averages 21 mpg, empty at 70mph. Much better than the Ford at 17 mpg. More torque and more horse power than the 7.3. '04 was the first year for the common rail fuel injection which makes it much more quiet and smoother running.
After I got the Dodge a couple of friends at work razzed me hard for getting a Dodge. They both had 7.3s. I sold the spare cam position censor I had to one of them for 110.00 so the next time his went out he would have one. Unlike the 1st time his went out. The other guy called me after I got home from work one day and asked me if I still had the censor cause he was stranded in traffic cause his went out. I had to go rescue him buy pulling it out of the motor and going to International so he could buy a new one for 120.00. Then go back and install it for him. They haven't razzed me since about driving a Dodge. And both of them have had to replace the censors at least once since then.

People used to compliment me on how pretty the truck was. It was,"Island Blue", in color, "OOOOOO", PRETTY! I used to tell them, it looks REALLY pretty going down the road..........ON A TOW TRUCK!!!    >:(

I understand what you're saying saddlebum, I had a similar experience with a chevy in 2000. It wouldn't run , heck it wouldn't even start at the shop. they took it back finally and 2 hrs later brought it back and said they couldn't find the problem. An independent mechanic took 5 minutes to tell me it was the fuel pump. Chevy told me that they wouldn't pay for it unless their guy confirmed that diagnosis. Well I said a bunch of stuff that cant be reprinted here then told em what their mechanic could do with his opinion.

Its not the fact that something went wrong its giving me my keys back and sending me down the raod with a malfunctioning truck. I asked them if the Toyota dealer might could find the problem!

I'm through venting now , at least for now !  ::)

Ford "ripped their britches" with me over the way they handled an extended warranty issue on my Ford Explorer about 20 years ago.

They failed to honor the agreement noting it was 12 days out of the requirements even though I had 16,000 miles left on the mileage.  Cost me $2500 out of pocket and left me with a commitment to tell the story as long as I live.

Zone office people were less than helpful, too.

Promised to never buy another Ford and have not.  Never have bought another extended warranty either as the "fine print" will do you in every time.

  • Oh father of the four winds, fill my sails!
some of you guys are making me really grateful to have an old paid for Ford, that keeps running.

Paid 900 bucks for it in 2006, have put nearly 90K miles on it, only replacing waterpump, one tire rod end, and three sets of tires. Getting 37mpg regularly, and.. can still fit a nice 8pointer in the back.

cheap driving can be gratifying...

Wait till it's 50 or 60 below and see what happens to those Prius.  And those little green things Honda makes.  My F-350 has drug a few out of the middle of the highway and over onto the shoulder when they quite and would not move in the cold.  The drivers were at least well dressed, seems they did not heat inside well either.

I've bought two F-150s used, with the 300 Six.  Both had 60 to 70K on them when I bought them.  I drove them both till the truck was falling apart.  Over 350K on both when I got rid of them.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

  • IF ONLY I COULD GO BACK-I WOULD BE A MOUNTAIN MAN!
To each their own!
Who knows why and each has their reasons.
Some hate Fords, others hate Chevys while others hate other brands.
Same with Remington and Winchester and all the others.
Some hate DEMs while other hate REPs, well I think we all hate all of them!!! :D
Those that hate one or the other for whatever reason will most likely never change their minds.
Mostly it's what you grew up with or has given you the best service.
Like I said, to many good used ones around at a discount to buy new.
That goes for guns also.

Those are the words that get us all removed from public land.

Just those who are destroying it.

Keep telling your self that.
We lost thousands of acres in offroading areas because hunters who did not want to share.
Now these same hunters are in danger of losing access to the same land. I find it hard to give a rat's butt because I don't hunt that land.
