The liberals are not just going to walk away after they are voted out this time. They are going to have to be removed.
People say that every election - regardless of who has power. Liberals were saying that Bush wasn't going to give up the Presidency in 2008 either. Things aren't THAT doom and gloom yet.
That said, the states should have been very aware of the fact that this legilslation COULD pass well before it actually did, and should have been making plans on how they'll comply in the event that it does. You have to look down the tunnel and plan for the possibilities, not just take things as they come. In my job I deal mostly with assessing property taxes, and we get constant notifications about all related legislation the state is even THINKING about passing. Anything that's being debated we're already brainstorming on how to make it happen. If the law doesn't pass, then we just hold off on implementing those ideas, but you most certainly don't wait until it passes and only then start to think about how you'll make it happen.
