jc higgins model 50 receiver sight ?
« on: August 25, 2010, 03:30:31 PM »
Hello, have a jc higgins model 50 (FN deluxe action), would like to find an old all steel lyman receiver sight for it: just not sure what model it would be?  57 sme , 57 sml or #48  could someone tell me the correct sight I need.  I know these old sights are expensive, and I just want to make sure I;m looking for the correct one.  Thank You, John

The 57-SML fits muzzleloaders, the 57-SME fits Springfield/Mauser/Enfield - but might be a tad high for an FN which has no clip ears on the receiver bridge.
A No. 48 sight is nice, but I disremember if one was ever made to fit an FN action, AND if a long slide, the stock wood would most likely need to be relieved for the slide.

I have just tried a Lyman 57SME against a P-H 1200 rear bridge and it fits just fine (no charger clips). Just need to D&T it now. Not sure about expensive I picked up 3 off E-bay for  a very reasonable sum along with NIB Redfield model 102 and 70WCH for the Re-modeled P-14's.
