Not diminishing John McCains service record , we owe a great deal of gratitude for all who answered the call, past , present and future. However that said, I've lost a lot of respect for him over the past few years. It does sadden me I now feel this way.
I feel the same way regarding Colin Powell.
I think what this country wants most is a Bi partisan working Gov't where all of Americans idea's are represented, debated and compromise is struck . The goal should be to continuously strive to reach common ground. Concentrate on what most have in common, debate what is disagreed upon, and work together to find compromise through the best legislation possible. (yes this may mean not everybody gets all that they want.)
At present this country is so polarized. Representatives are unwilling to reach across the Isle outside of their own party. They discard thoughtful discussions instead resorting to vulgarities and gutter tactics. So Gov't stagnates , The country stagnates. the economy stagnates. It's become less about creating a functioning Gov't and more about Party affiliation politics.
Across the board the legislators have forgotten they work for, the common man, not special interests, or big business, lobbyists , wall street , hidden agendas etc..
The common man elected them - sent them all to DC to represent mainstream America, not far left or far right.
I'll get off my soap box now... feel free to bash away and disagree.
