Yup, lots of folks use them, but I wouldn't recommend its use on anything with significant recoil unless you modify the stock so it can't collapse, or you'll end up looking like this fella.

I had one a long time ago when they just came out, they were junk.
I heard they had gotten better, looked at a few on some mossberg shotguns, and decided to try one on my hornet, so far I really like it.
makes it a really nice compact unit, which is the only reason I have one.
they are much nicer than they used to be.

I WOULD NOT trust one on a 500 at all, In fact I would think of putting one on a shotgun either, other than a 410 that is.

Good luck, and be carefull

Dave

I've got one on my AR.  It works good for that platform, but it was designed for that platform.

I prefer wood on my hunting rifles.  I've got a few with synthetics, but am gradually putting wood on all of them.

Tactical is a state of mind, not a piece of equipment.  The current fad of calling things "tactical" is amusing, but it's starting to wear on my nerves.  It seems as if manufacturers hang that moniker on a piece of equipment to increase sales.  It's working for them, because the mall ninjas want everything to be "tactical".  I even had a guy try to sell me a tactical beer opener last month.  Interesting concept, but opening a beer while assigned to our latest unpleasantness is a direct violation of General Order #1.  Troops in combat aren't allowed beer any more.  Don't get me started about that.

I had one on a .17HMR bull barrel.  The stock felt like a kid's toy, and the barrel made the rifle way too front heavy,,,,,,,,got rid of both.

I agree with Tim and the others, if you have one and want to use it thats fine, but nothing larger than a .22 or you are risking the same injuries that the other member suffered that Tim's picture shows. I remembr when he posted that, he was shooting from a bench and I think he ended up in the ER....<><....:)

I have had several. I like them, but as the other have said, unless modified they can kill on one end and maim on the other. Take a look at my Recoil Issues post  further down and see how I addressed this issue.   Doug
