Yooper this is what it all about.  I love to see our youth in the field and learning what we are doing and Keeping our heritage alive.

This is beautiful.  God Bless my friend.

Don’t I know it!  I introduced her into target shooting at age 5 with a Rossi youth 22LR and later bought a Savage Mark I youth single shot bolt action.  I topped the rifle with a Weaver RV-7 Rimfire 2.5-7 x 28mm scope and Millet medium rings.

She enjoys shooting the little hanging steel plate target at 25 yards after she shot at paper targets. It took some coxing for her to try my T/C Encore in 223 Remington rifle.  First she was afraid of the louder muzzle blast she heard through her 3M hear defenders.  After the third visit to the range she finally gave it a try and quickly realized it was just a sound and the recoil was nothing.  The rifle surprised her when it went off, since the Encore trigger was crisper then her Savage rifle. She was very consistent at 25, 50 75 and 100 yards on paper.  I never knew what to expect when an actual live deer stood broadside in front of her.  I can tell you I never was that cool on my first deer.

She says she is ready for next year, and so am I.

I don't think I've been hunting in over 5 years.  A real shame as I used to live and breath it.  Now I'm starting to get the bug again as my son is 9 years old and is constantly begging to go to the range with his .22.

I've been struggling with a deer rifle choice for him and think that I've settled on a G2 rifle.  I think focusing on one well-aimed shot will be good for him.  It may be slightly more hassle and more money than buying individual guns, but I'm planning on buying him a .22 l.r. barrel, a muzzleloader barrel, and maybe even a 20 ga. shotgun barrel in addition to a deer cartridge offering.  I think it will be neat for him to grow into hunting with one gun that can do it all.

I also have an Encore in .223 and 209X50.  I killed a nice buck with the ML barrel a number of years ago and both barrels shoot better than I can.  With getting him started I have a new found love affair with the single shots.
Life is like a dogsled team, if you ain't the lead dog the scenery never changes.

I think there is the "you can't have enough guns" camp and the "I hate to see this go to waste" camp.
I am in the latter camp; the guns weren't bothering anybody in the closet, but it just bugged me that they were not getting used.
Sold off 3 guns, spare barrels, associated scopes. The difference in what I paid and what I sold them for is called "cost of fun".
Took that money and got my dream 22. What I have now gets used.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

Well I have been giving this subject a lot of thought also and as I love my TCR 83 and the 87 I have been thinking that if I can find a 45-70 barrel a Hornet barrel a 7mm08 then I would sell my Three encores and and just keep my contenders. I might even sell and just buy the same cal. in Ruger number 1. Number ones are much easier to come by in my area than TCR rifles and barrels. There are always at least 25 or 30 number ones at every Gun show and price range is from 650 to 850 for a pretty nice one with nice wood. I do love the single shots and much prefer to use them in hunting and I have never needed a second shot anyway.
