Ruger No 3 Weight and other questions
« on: December 03, 2003, 02:37:29 PM »
Anybody know what a Ruger No 3 in 45/70 weighs without a scope?

Is the Ruger action considered a high wall or low wall or is there no correlation?

Are replacement barrels readily available??  Any pointers to a source?

As for a rebarrel job goes. My first choice would be SSK Industries. There is a link to them on home page.

Hey Coltdriver, to answer some of the rest of your questions, it's a falling block design that is basically a Ruger No. 1 with a different style lever.  Highwall and Lowall usually refer to the Winchester singleshot rifle, Model 1885, to differentiate between two of the major action variations.

With a weight of 6 pounds and that carbine-type buttplate, you won't have any problem knowing when the hammer falls!

The action itself is as strong as a No. 1, and can be rebarreled for anything that you can stuff through the receiver ring.  I've seen some nice custon rifles built on No. 3 Rugers.
