red dot sight Q
« on: August 28, 2010, 01:37:57 PM »
Just got a new X-Bow and it came with a 3 dot sight.  Even back when I could still draw my bow, I only ever used one pin.  Does any one have any general measurements for how much difference there is between the top and bottom dot at say 35 yds.  I know a lot of things come into play like arrow weight and speed.  150# draw, 20" 385gr arrow, maufacturer claims 320FPS but I doubt it.  May just put my old single dot on it and sell the 3 dot, but it has red/green and red even on it's lowest setting seems to blur the target in very low light.  Just looking for some "about" numbers and other's experience before heading to the range to sight in.  Thanx in advance...

I started at 15 yds with the main dot and got on target. Then moved out to 25 yds and zeroed main dot in at that range.  Then move back five yds and use main dot, if you are too low try second dot......trial and error.  In hunting situation I really only use the main dot, I feel very confident that at 25 yds the deer is dead.
