Talo special 357 mag
« on: August 28, 2010, 07:16:51 PM »
Took the Talo out for the first time today. Sent about 250 rounds downrange, all cast boolits. I find this really smooths out the barrels. I was pretty impressed with the accuracy. I loaded up about twenty five round with a 210 grain slug. Those were really seated out a ways just covering the last grease groove. This rifle sure has a long leade. If I had a 357 max round, I would see if it chambered. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm glad I went with the shorter barrel rifle,it seems rather HANDI! :D

I can send you a .357 Max case, but seldom will it chamber as is. Some folks have taken only 0.10" out of their chambers to ream the Mag to Max. May I suggest you try some 360 Dan Wesson brass. It should chamber just fine and is a little bit longer than the Magnum. I can only find one piece of the DW brass, you can have it if you want, PM me your address, if so.

Thanks, Dinny

I reamed my Talo .357 as well. With the 180 grain Cast Performance boolit and 18.5 gr of 2400 (Which leaves  room in the maxi case for the boolit) and Federal Primers. This load in my gun shot a 1.25" ctc @100yds off sandbags. My trigger is just under 3lbs.

There was a guy at the range that was shooting a 300 win mag in a very expensive model 700 fluted barrel and all, and he could not get a group at all in a lead sled.

It is amazing to me the accuracy you can get with this Handi .357 for $240 or less. You can spend a bunch of dollars and not get results that are much better. (For an Indiana deer gun anyway)

Befor reaming my .357 mag. to a max. I shot 360 DW in mine all the time and they still shoot great after reaming.
