Serial number prefix...

I just pcked up a .44 rem mag and the prefix is CAC? I was just curious as to what this stood for...Thanks

2008 SB1 according to the FAQ serial number section.

the "C" series prefix started when they left Gardner, MA and move to NY.  They don't appear to be indexing the prefix to the year like they used to. >:(

Thats interesting as the reciever is stamped SB2.

Thats interesting as the reciever is stamped SB2.

The barrel is marked SB2, not the receiver(frame) and it has nothing to do with the frame type, barrels are made in an entirely different operation, maybe months before it's put on a frame. The only thing marked on the SB1 shotgun frame is the make and where it's made, serial number, and on the right side a note to which barrels can be used on it. If you doubt the frame type, looks at the model number on the end of the box, it starts with SB1.

You are correct Tim. I wrongly assumed this since the barrel was marked SB2.
