I have a chance to buy the following local to me. Any one know about these? -g
MODEL 1871-1971 H&R CENTENNIAL COMMEMORATIVE OFFICERS RIFLE
- .45-70 Govt. cal., 26 in. heavy blue barrel, select hand checkered walnut stock, metal buttplate, forend cap, and grip adaptor, tang mounted adj. rear sight, blade front sight, cleaning rod mounted under barrel, color case hardened receiver, lock plate, and buttplate, original production was going to be 10,000, but number actually mfg. is unknown. Mfg. 1971.

I know I'd like it!  ;)  I've been thinking of getting another .45-70BC barrel added to my BC and then having that one cut down to 26ish.  How's yours shoot at that length barrel?

Didn't notice you said had a chance to buy.  I see it is a trapdoor model too.  Be a cool piece to have anyway.  8)  Sorry about my misread.

If this is the gun I've seen and handled, and I think it is, it is a trapdoor repro.  It is also beautiful if you consider guns to be such, with excellent wood and metal fit and finish.

The only downside, is this can only shoot trapdoor level loads, and I don't think you can scope it.  If you are a traditionalist, you will love it.
