My Arisaka .308 build finally done Pics

Well I finally got my Arisaka .308 build done, and took it to the range today.
My smith put a A&B 25 1/4 barrel on, also a Timmney trigger and saftey, that cleanly brakes at 2.5 lbs.. Bedded and free floated the barrel. I did the stock in several coats of tru-oil, and smoothed everything out with pulverized limestone and linseed oil.
My first and only load so far is 125 gr. Sierra Pro-hunter, behind it was 47 gr. of 4895. A couple of 3 shot groups came in right at an 1 inch. I have a sneaking suspicion that 168 SMK's would do well in it since it is a 1:10 twist. Anyway just wanted to post what I have been working on.

Nice looking rifle. With your 125 gr bullet drop back to 46 grs of IMR 4895 and see what it does. I shoot this load in a number of 308's with 125 Nosler ballistic tips and it will put them in the same hole. It kills deer like lightening struck them also.

That is a beauty; very nice metal and wood work.  That load must be pretty easy on both you and the rifle but those action are strong.  Looks a bit like the 98 excepting for the cocking piece.  Nice job.

Congrats on your 308 Arisaka.....looks nice.  I've had 4 or 5 A&B barrels installed in my military action sporters.  You should expect to get better than a 1" group.  If like mine, you should see improvement on your groups.  Seems like my groups showed improvement after maybe 40-50 rounds down barrel.

I have a couple of decent looking sporter type 38 arisakas still with their original 6.5 barrels shortened.  One was rechambered to 6.5 Swede and other is a 6.5-257R and both still have their original triggers.  Both would be decent deer hunting rifles but don't get much accuracy out of them when shooting paper at 100 yards.  Well over 1" groups about best I can do with them.  I've thought about rebarreling one of them, but 2 gunsmiths that are local to me don't want to work on an Arisaka.  Shame too, both actions are in darn nice condition.

Looks great and I bet you have a ton of coin wrapped up in it. That's ok, I have way more money in my Krag than a sane person would,but I have exactly what I wanted. Good job!

Very nice build! Keep us posted on your load search. I bought a Rem 798 in 308 last year and I like the Mauser action. Looking forward to Axis and hog hunting with it this year.

What interested me in this action for a re-build intially was the testing the P.O. Ackley had done on all the Miliitary Mauser actions at the time.
He took I believe it was the 1903 a1, the 303 british Enfield, and 98 Mauser, up to 90,000 cups to complete failure of the action. The Arisaka was taken up to 120,000 cups, and he still could not get it to fail.
At least that is the story that I have read.

I like having the military sporters to enjoy too as well with my newer guns.  With a build you can't put a price on accuracy.  Numrich Gun Parts also has a/b barrels too listed with the gun parts.

awesome rifle i got a arisaka in the cabinet i bought for 47 bucks with a out of round chamber.  Sure wish i knew of a smith that would do the work of course er shaw will do the barrel but gotta get my pennies together       Awesome rifle thought about 260 rem but 308 would be easier to come by

E R Shaw will rebarrel the Arisaka.  They'er located near Pitsburgh, Pa.
