336 30.30 price??

I have someone wanting to sell this gun, and he isn't agreeing with me with the price.  It is a 336M ( which I have never heard of the "M" model) in 30.30 cal.  Purchased in 1984, a Leupold Vari-X lll 1.5 X 5 scope.  Scope was purchased in 1984 as well.  Owner claims gun was shot less than 20 times, and super clean with just a few scuffs.   

He 'thinks' that its worth $600-700, im closer to $300. 

What ya think??  Sorry, I dont have pics right now.

A brand new 336 30-30 at the Walmart in Jennings Louisiana was $368.00 about a month ago, so I would say your a lot closer to the right price than he is.

Just looled at one at our wallmart for 359.00 with the scope he's close, scope at mid-way is 399.00. Tell him to keep the scope and put a cheaper one on it. I have a bushnel on mine and kill deer at 125yrds. {the length of the food plot}every year.  Is it stainless?

The 336M is an early stainless steel variant of the 336.  I am not sure if it has the cross bolt safety.  The scope would add at least a couple hundred to the deal.  Considering what new SS 336's go for, I'd guess the package is worth about $500.00.

Check Guns America or GunBroker.com for an idea of current prices.

I think Jax is trying to get a whole lot of something for next to nothing.  Hey, this isn't some clapped-out, trailworn, beat to hell Glenfield 30 A with a crappy Trashco scope that we're talking about here, after all.  I'd a lot rather have a near new 336M than a brand spankin' new 336 SS and the Leupold Vari X III 1.5-5X scope is a known quantity to me, as I had that same excellent model on a .375 H&H I used to own.  I don't regret parting with the rifle so much, but deeply regret not keeping that scope because they DO NOT make 'em like they used to.  Furthermore, I think a fair deal is a two-way street, and since I am resoulte in my belief that niether Marlin or Leupold currently duplicate the quality once found in their respective products, I believe that I can't really duplicate this rife / scope combo on the new market.  I know that if I tried to duplicate it with new, I'd be in to the combo for close to a grand and I'd be paying more for lesser goods.  That isn't value to me, but I can definitely see plenty of value in a near new condition 336M and Leupold Vari X III 1.5-5 combo for $600.00.  

I'd give the guy $600.00 without any argument or dickering at all, assuming the discription of the goods is accurate.

As stated I see nothing special. Make an offer.  If it doesn`t fly, keep looking.  It`s not like he owns the only 336 Marlin out there.  30-30`s are everywhere.    :)

What do you want the gun for,hunting or collecting? If your just wanting to hunt than you can get by for a hole lot cheaper by going to wallmart or ? and getting a good scope, a new in the box 30-30 for 350.00-375.00 will never let you down as long as you do your part. But if your looking for something elese than maybe,offer him 500.00 and see what he says.

$150 for the scope and $450 for the gun. Want a plain jane 336 with a POS scope, go to WalMart/Academy/Dicks/Sports Authority/etc.

Walmart 336 in 30-30 for $367.00  and Marlin has a $35 rebate going on that rifle right now. The rebate coupons are right there at the checkout desk or you can print from the website. Im thinking of getting a new one myself. I have an older one and it doesnt have the crossbolt safety or  micro groove rifling I dont think but the stock is a cheap hardwood with a cheap veneer thats chipping away. I want a prettier gun.

The guys $600 to $700 is a lot closer to what its worth tha Jax's $ 300 The gun alone is worth alot  more than $300

From your discription you're not getting cheated at $600, but you are getting quality on both rifle and scope. You can buy something less expencive that will do the same, but for that setup you are paying for something much better than average. If you have the $ than buy it and hunt the begeezes out of it, that setup can handle it in all weather.

I agree on the higher value, it is worth $600 and if you (or I) could get it for $500, run, don't walk, to his house with cash in hand. The older guns and scopes were better than todays....<><....:)

I have a 336W. It's 9 yrs old and never been fired. (long story about that) I've been trying to sell it at the last couple of gun shows for $300 and nobody is interested. I don't really mind cause I'm not crazy about selling it. I've been offered $250 by several people but I just can't get myself to "give it away".
