Was recently in NY, Tioga County, for my Grandfathers Funeral. I took advantage of getting some pics of the local Cannons. The 4 Mortars are in the square in Owego. Its a Civil war monument. The 4 black cannons are in a cemetery in Owego as well. These 4 are posted up in front of several GAR graves. The last cannon is posted in the middle of my Grandfathers cemetery. Its a 6 pounder, made in 1852, made by Ames co. Founders Chicopee, Mass. They are about to remove and restore this barrel and remount it at the entrance of the cemetery. My uncle said this barrel has been stolen 2 times!! Hard to believe since this sucker weighs 800-900lbs! Ok, back to the Mortars, They mounted them up side down, so the touch holes are down in the dirt. They appear to be 8 inch mortars, Made by Cyrus Alger and Company out of Boston, MA. 1865, 1036 LBS, C A & C, No. 40, 41, 42, 45, Other text on the barrel: J. Mc A : S.C.L. SMcM & Co. (im not sure what this one means.)
