If the idea of a mosque near Ground Zero is to promote tolerance:

It has been suggested that a gay nightclub be open next door to the mosque.Two names proposed for the club are;"The Turban Cowboy" & "You Mecca Me Hot". A life size statue of Mohammed will be prominently displayed in front of the bar. On the other side should be a butcher shop specializing in pork. Across the street, a store that sells and displays ladies lingerie and bikinis on live models.

After all, this is still America - isn't it ?

I don't have a problem with that. Both the mosque and the clubs have the right to be there if they are meeting the local building codes, etc. It would make for interesting people watching.

Tolerance is supposed to be a two way street but you know damned well that the city wont allow anything to be built nearby that offends the new entitled class of America, the muslims.

Any day now I expect to see the islamic versions of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson wagging their fingers in our faces and delivering lectures about how we owe them.

Seriously? I estimate that New York Dolls, a high end strip club at 59 Murray street, is 200 feet away. There are illegal strip clubs closer.

Seriously? Do you think that they wont be forced to move or shut down in the name of tolerance? Do you think the city will allow other businesses that offend muslims to go into that area?

THIS is what separation of CHURCH and STATE is all about. NOT prayers in schools, crosses in the desert, or plaques in a courthouse. The government should not be able to tell anyone what they can or can't build on private property in a given area as long as they meet zoning requirements and building codes. I would rather a mosque be built at Ground Zero than a precedent be set so 1000 churches are refused a build site across the country. Y'all got to learn to think of the War and not the Battle.

This Mosque has nothing to do with tollarance.
If you listen to the Imam that is heading the Mosque he hates America. Hates everything we stand for. Why he is now on a good will tour sponsored by the State Departemnta and is now bad Moouthing America around the Middle East. This will be a trophy to hate, will spew hate from it and will be built on the sight of the attack. The building it will replace was destroyed when one of the landing gear crached through the roof.
On the Radio one of the Union guys was saying the cost will be astranomical, the labor if they do the job will be slow and the cost over runs, not tomention all the bacon spilled from the BLT's the Unions will supply weeekly to the workes as well as the Italian Sausage and Peppers.
If this was about Tollarance the Cathloc Church would also be rebuilt. It is not being rebuilt and there is no reason why.

As far as the unions go, that is SOP for any unions in NYC. I used to work in the towers. It was union work to plug in a PC. That is right, I had to get an electrican to plug the plug into an outlet. Unions were raping Ground Zero long before it was Ground Zero.

Top white Christians and Jews supporting mosque. Given that that this country was founded by men similar to these, i would say that the people are backing down. Another sign is that the mosque developer is backing down too (on location), probably in an effort to score free real estate.

I looked up the story. Couple things I don't get. Since when do you pay semi annual property tax to the IRS? I thought that the IRS goes after income tax. And while you may make quarterly estimated tax payments, how exactly would they know if your estimate was off for 1/2010 and 7/2010.

I did a show in Chiacgo and Holly cow with the Union rules.
We needed Teamsters to bring in the crates.
Carpenters to open the crates.
Rigers to take the items out of the crate.
And electricians to plug in the displays.
The really big thing was I had to take the back drops out of the case, set them up for the carpenter to see how to do it, then take it down, pack it back up and let him do it. What really ticked me off was I said "just set up the other one, double the time and I will sign the ticket, I have a few other things to do to set up the booth." and NO I had to waiste my time. Not to mention all the standing around time waiting for he next union to show up.
But I can see those silly rules driving them nuts.
The Unions were needed at one point, now the unions are all about the union leadership and not the members. The Union rules are driving up costs that keep more work from being done. The UPS strike of the mid 90's proved it to me. The Drivers just broke even last year on the raise vs the time they were not working. The whole strike was over the Billion $ trust fund UPS had for the drivers. When UPS managed the fund 100% of the profits went into growing the trust fund, when the Union took it over they take 20% of all profits off the top for managing the fund. So if the fund was making 5% of the Billion after all the pay outs on a 10% return. Or growing by 50 million a year. Now that the union is in charge they take 20 million off the top. Diminishing the drivers retiremnet fund.

Yeah, it got better. Tried moving coax under raised floor so I could move my desk to the other side of the room. Cables ended up vandalized. Hmmmmm. Head electrician was a nice guy and looked nothing like Tony Soprano, but the heads of all the depts had to give him very nice gifts each Christmas to ensure speedy completion of work throughout the year.
