I saw/ heard this yesterday. This guy joins the military without coercion, then when its time to deploy, he plays the muslim/objector card.  BS . I guess he would have been OK if he would have been sent to Israel to kill Jews! Send the puke to Leavenworth for life!

Interesting.  I think second to the hispanic ethnicity...moslems are third in comprising the ranks of our military, (but not sure). I say give him a CO or ship him off to do other work...nobody understands everything until he is immersed into the middle of a situation...that comes with age.

TM, part of me agrees with what you are saying, but at the same time we've been engaged in this conflict since this kid was 15-16, and he didn't join in a surge of Patriotism like a lot of kids did right after 09/11, he joined up at a time when popularity of the war was at an all time low.  I can't help but think that he, personally, had this "CO" stunt planned out all along.  I could be wrong, but that scenario rings more true to me than  his waking up one day and thinking "Killing is bad, mmmmmkaaayyyy."  I guess that I would be more willing to have "CO" granted to soldiers and sailors that enlisted Pre-2004 than any since and especially in the last 3 years.

And since no one else will say it.  "Clap" for the Islamic group for supporting our military, the US Constitution, and acknowledging the evil and hate generated by the fanatic fringe of their own religion.

When one enlist during a time of conflict they knowing do so with the understanding they may have to go and do things they don't like.  The use of CO status is wrong, they should have thought about that before they joined.  Now make them go, or put them in Levenworth.  If we still had the draft I could see it, but we don't.

I highley doubt that muslim animals are the 3rd largest group in the military. Whites, blacks and hispanics take up the first 3 slots and from personal experience I would say asian/pacific islanders are 4th. Also muslim animal is not an ethnicity. We did have one or 2 blacks of the calipso Louie brand of islam in our unit, but not enough to put them as a major group. I'm sure old TM is just trying to spread more of his BS.

I would guess we have enough prior servie and current service members here at GBO to know we are being fed BS by old TM again.

I was 17 when I joined up  - knew exactly the contract I was signing , and knew exactly what was going to be asked of me if the need arose. He took an oath , signed a contract. Time to  put away the kid toys and Be a man.

Maybe Wylie,,,if the kid was 13 or so at 911, then he only knows what he was told.. Maybe he de-programmed himself, or personal analysis led to some epiphany or something....not unusual with young folks.  As for a 'plan' to claim a CO,,,don't know, seems like heap big hassle, and I don't know what he would gain except alot of crap from his peers and anxiety.

   While i am pleased to see a Muslim groupo (albeit a small one) showing some  American identification, I heartily disagree that a "twenty-something" is too stupid to know what he is doing when he enlists in the military during wartime. "Twenty-somethings" are involved in many responsible positions in science, medicine and manufacturing..and don't forget, on average our enlisted military personnel have  test scores well above their civilian peers.
  When you claim that Muslims compose a large share of our enlistees...really, you should refrain from pulling statistics out of the air.
  Islam and the rest of the minor religious bodies compose a very small percentage of our troops. Placing all Christian denominations in one group, as was done with Sunnis & Shiites, would make it clear that the overwhelming majority are Christians:
