3 position saftey shroud for remington 700 gentry or ptg
« on: September 04, 2010, 03:22:00 PM »
Anything special about intalling these, will be replacing the j-lock shroud on the 700 with a gentry or ptg 3 position saftey, cocking piece, firing pin with spring, presume if their is to much protrusion with the firing pin, grind it down what if their is not enough firing pin protrusion.

Go slow and be careful. Follow the instructions. Don't get impatient. It is not an easy job first time (or second or third...) but if you are careful you'll be fine. BTW, firing pin protrusion does not come into the equation. That's already set. You need to make the safety cam the firing pin back .050" or so, so the cocking piece is not touching the sear bar. Test it extensively to make sure it is right, and won't fire when you take it off safe. Be patient....

That's especially true with the M700's short throw firing pin. It must cam the striker back enough to relieve the pressure on the sear or it can hang, causing AD's when the safety is turned off.
