Goods needed for the Wounded Warriors
« on: September 04, 2010, 07:01:26 PM »
Hello everyone,
As many of you know, I work with the Wounded Warriors that are transitioning through Scott AFB.  Recently I was asked to take full control of the Welcome Home Soldier Program. Today when I was there to move patients on-board their next flight, I noticed that the goody closet has been emptying at a alarming rate. If anyone can donate a few items, these men and women would be greatly appreciative. "It would be really nice if you could donate some items." Lately they have been in the staging facility just long enough to need only a snack. The snacks are going fast. Also on a sad note, we are seeing more and more patients every mission.  :'(

Please PM me for address info.

Favorites:
Fruit Roll Ups
Soda
Cup-O-Fruit
Ramen Noodles bowls and cups (no durable bowls or cups available in staging facility)
Juice boxes, Capri Suns, etc
Durable plastic spoons and forks are also needed

I am very thankful for all the donations that have been given!

Thanks, Dinny

That's very generous of you, thanks!  Hot Pockets is another favorite snack of the warriors, but since they are perishable, I was gonna get some every once in a while myself. I will put this towards more of them.

Thanks, Dinny

I just wanted to publicly thank Biker Beans. He sent a sizable monetary donation today via PayPal. I was readying for a trip to Wal-Mart already so I picked up a few more items than just what was planned.

Here's a pic of what I got today and when I free up more time and freezer space, I'm going back to buy Hot Pockets, sodas and fruit cups, etc..

Tom, thank you very much!

Thanks, Dinny

This is a fine thing Dinny is doing.  We who have served have full understanding of how important it is for our guys and gals coming home to know their sacrifice is appreciated.  Many of us came home to scorn and ridicule.....lets work to prevent that from ever happening again.  Dinny, you and all your guys and gals coming through are cherished.

PayPal sent.

Thanks,

Pete

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today I received some valuable advice. Since the Welcome Home Soldier Program is a gov't program, I am not permitted to solicit donations. Rather I can say this, "It would be really nice if you could donate something."  Also, since this program doesn't have a Treasurer, cash/money can't be accepted into the program as a donation. So I have two options here, #1 accept anything you may send and donate it myself directly into the program just as if I gave it myself or... #2 I can donate it to another supporting organization that is an official non-profit organization i.e. the local American Legions, VFWs, Hope for Heroes, WWP, etc.... Either way, I am accepting some risk myself. Since this is a heart-felt cause that I won't back down on and will stand-up for as long as I can stand, I will gladly accept that risk!

Please keep those donations coming, "it is really nice of you to do!;)

Thanks, Dinny

Good for you, Dinny.  Don't trip over the red tape - but don't expose yourself to trouble any more than you have to either.  My check went in the mail this morning.  You can say I was hearing voices or something... ;)

Dinny, I didn't mean to come over brash and Mr. Rich Goodie Two Shoes.  I'm not, and Patty's not.  I sold some stuff here on the forum and it put a few more spendlies in there.  We aren't rich folks.  Patty's in agreement with me.  We went through the Viet Nam era and the rotten time coming home.  Please Lord, never let it happen to these good people.  These folks put their neck on the line for us......can we do less?  Kick in and help.  These are our boys and girls.

Anyone have any ideas on how to smuggle an overage, half blind, senile, wannabe sniper into the war zone?

Thanks, Dinny

Pete,
I completely understand your point and appreciate your gift. You have seen far more than I and understand it that much more.  Although your gift was sizable in my eyes, it was not an exorbitant amount that would signify wealthiness, but rather your generosity.

Thanks for giving!

I'm sorry to sound maudlin, but this has got me by the tail.  One of the  things that keeps me awake nights, is where is the obamafrigeration related to this?

We've got wounded, disabled, kids coming home, and we have to depend on donations to make them feel at home and comfortable.  Graybeard. censor this if you need to.  This is absolute BS.  Our government can find all kinds of bucks to aid this or that problem anywhere in the world to assist any SOB.  Why do our returning wounded need to rely on private donations?  I'm a little more than Hot on this one.

Pete,
Although I have no explanation for this, I think I know who might. I'll PM you the contact info for a man I met today. He's retired Navy and his son lost his leg recently in Iraq. He's a great supporter of the wounded warriors and has spoken to many a general officer in ways that I couldn't even imagine. ;) Maybe he can help...

Dinny, I'm only happy to help in any way I'm able. Keep up the good work. It's a shame that some good deeds need to the done on the down low.
So be it... if thats what it takes!
I assume that donations coming directly from you are legal!  ;)
I can say that after working 2 years with a Marine gunny that came home fresh from Desert Storm years ago, all wounds are not physical.
More needs to be done for the injured returning home with there lives turned around.  Our countries fighting forces have come home under the radar or spit on by those that enjoy the freedoms that has been paid for in blood for to many years now.
Gonna go have another beer and a chew now.

That's correct, I can give all I want and I can directly solicit donations from other military personnel or military organizations. Just not directly from the civilian population. ???  That's why my approach is indirect . ;)

He's a great supporter of the wounded warriors and has spoken to many a general officer in ways that I couldn't even imagine.  Maybe he can help...

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny, I've worked for and with a number of General Officers, a couple were superlative.  A British Brigadier, and a U.S. Vice Admiral.  Most of the rest were not worth half their pay.  Getting some big brass to stand up and shout won't do amy more than you and I standing up and doing it.  What's needed is a senator or two crawling over some folks's butts asking a lot of questions.  I think I'm going to look in that direction.

That's fine, but I still would talk to Chip first. He's been there and done that. ;)

Thanks, Dinny

I'll do that Dinny, but just now, I'm pulling on boots and grabbing the .445 Handi and am headed out back looking for Mr. Bruin.  As gendoc would say.....sea ya.  Later,

Dinny,

My church will make a donation to the program.  I can send a check or send the funds through paypal.  Let me know what you would like me to do and PM me the appropriate info.

I would like to extend a special thanks to the following individuals who have recently donated gifts to the WHSP.

Pigboy Crabshaw

Revbc

Longtom

Phatinjun

Thejanitor

I was able to restock all the shortages and yesterday I bought a new propane tank for the staging facility's gas grill. They use it every time there are troops staying for a few days. Also, through a joint donation venture, the troops will now have fresh milk. No more of the UHT milk. :P

Thank you very much for your gifts!

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny sorry I read the updated red tape version after mailing the check. Please donate it in your name, No problem as long as they get a snack and know we value what they do for us. Thank you for offering to do this for them. And thanks for what you have given to all of us as well.
