« on: September 06, 2010, 10:01:40 AM »
like some of the gardner production line ?
i know jim had fits with his, but was it a rem product ?
some gardner whelens seem to be doing good with no problems and just wondering about the
big green variation.  even tho marlin "i think" still makes the barrel right?
so how about some experianced owners of the new rem whelen's speak up !!!
faq's don't answer my subject question. and i've read all previous posts.
this is all you---tim  ;D
thanks

John,

Since getting feedback here on the first run of Ilion Whelens is spotty, give Vans a call in Mississippi (601) 825-9087, they sold the 200 rifles that Ilion made last year, reading several threads in the MDWFP forum, it appears to me that TCs have just as many problems with Rem ammo as H&Rs. H&R made 130 test rifles to do the testing before they reintroduced them last year, and it's available in three different models this year, wood, syn MC and Handi-Grip, so I'd say the Ilion rifles have been a successful offering.

Let's not forget Ruger's problems.

http://rugerforum.net/ruger-single-shot/24370-ruger-no-1-35-whelen.html

And CVA too.

I stared at gendoc's BST post for a while but held off because

1) I thought that a factory complete/fitted gun would have an edge in warranty issues
2) I would feel silly buying a fixer upper when I knew the deal going in
30 A 300 Win mag Encore came up, and that will kill deer just as dead, especially since I have all the components and dies already

I have 243's. They hunt fine. I have an USH. Misfires keep it a range gun. I suppose that a .35 will fall in my lap someday. Reliability is boring.

It isn't just the Remington ammo.  The caliber is problematic.

Wellll, knock on wood guys. I bought a 35 Whelen at Able's (Huntsville, Texas) for my grandson's 18th birthday. He's gone through a box of Remington 200grain pointed soft points and probably 2 boxes of reloads (Remington brass) using 200 grain round nose bullets. So far this nice rifle is golden! No misfires or mishaps of any kind! It shoots much better out of the box than my beloved .45-70 Buffalo Classic did.

Good luck to all the .35 shooters. If you're having problems, I hope they are quickly resolved.

Let's not forget Ruger's problems.

my #1 tropical and my son's #1 international whelen would never even think of a FTF,
too many chances to puke.... since new in 2001.
no false shoulders needed with there operation.
maybe s/r has a problem with there whelen's of recent production. i don't know..

also my model 70 has never hick-up'd in 40+ years  ;D... i know its notta one-hole  ::)

they all perfer imr-4350 and the 225 accubond.  kinda slow but the accuracy and effect are amazing  ;)

i would just like to have a handi whelen to play with and close the gap between the handi calibers.
my boy has a handi whelen and its never give him any trouble with standard sized handloads.
i think its about 4-5 years new.... i would like to find its brother or sister from that assembly line.
 ;D

For me it all seems to come with the factory Rem ammo, no matter what gun is used.
I have 2 H&Rs, my friend has Ruger #1 and a Rem 700 custom.
Another friend also has a custom in 35 and we all seem to have problems with FTF in factory Rem ammo.
Use a different brand of ammo or hand load for them and the problem is solved.
I use the once fired Rem cases with Win primers and have not had a single FTF.
The same is true for my friends Ruger and 700.
I don't know about the other custom, I haven't talked to him in quite a while.

How about the Levervolution ammo?
Has anyone commented about any problems with it yet?
I can't find any to try.

I had FTF's with my Ruger bolt gun using Remington ammo. I got rid of it... I won't keep a rifle I can't count on to go bang. ;)
