So, what's everyone planning on hunting with?
« on: September 06, 2010, 06:32:59 PM »
I'm planning to use 777 with 385gr. Great Plains bullet in the Buckstalker and Patched round ball in the pistola:

I have modified the Buckstalker's sights to the TruGlo Ghost Ring sights, which was a huge improvement.  8)  I actually carry the Buckstalker and the pistol when hunting.  Pistol in cross draw fashion for quick follow-up or finishing off an animal.  8)

Sorry, didn't read the forum heading.  I also hunt with an encore 209 x 50 in a 15 inch barrel with hornady sabots and 100 grains of pyrodex.  Huge holes.

i'll be useing a traditions yukon, 80grains blackhorn 209 and a 295grain powerbelt. i have a new omega but after sighting in my yukon i saw no need to fire the omega, mabe next year but as long as the yukon shoots the way it does the omega will be a safe gun.

I'm not sure I feel like ringing the Savage out.  I may just use my new H&R Sidekick with the (banned site) breech plug.  I'm thinking it will take about 3-4 shots to figure it out.

My .45 T/C Hawken and my .54 Renegade will probably get some dirt time too.

I used an encore 209x50 with two 777 magnum pellets and barnes 250 gr barnes expander sabot on my cow moose hunt last week.   Williams peep and fiber optic front sites.  It worked like a charm.  Took a large cow at 70 yards, impact point of shoulder exit out far ribs, less than 20 yards before the cow collapsed.  Further details under. Post in moose hunting section.

I'm going to be using an encore 209x50 with 2 white hot pellets and either a hornady 250gr sst sabot, or a powerbelt 295gr hp.  Next trip to the range I'll finalize my hunting load for the year.

Will spend most of my season with a Barnett C-5 Wildcat.  Firearms season is my .45 Disc Extreme (wish I would have bought this machine years ago).  I'd hunt with a rock or a stck if they had a sean for it...

I'll be carrying a CVA Buckhorn in .50 cal, loaded with a 240gr XTP on top of 80gr of loose Pyrodex RS. Now, if I can just get the deer to cooperate, and not screw up the shot...

Savage Model 10, charged with a reasonable amount of 5744, topped with a TC Sabot, filled with a home made .430 cast bullet, so very accurate, and a new 4x Burris scope on top of all that. Good times ahead.

I got the invite on three ML only hunts, so I had to buy one --- never needed one for the extra 4 days of season that I could already hunt with a bow.

I will be shooting a new camo/blue TC Impact, 250 grain shockwaves or Dead Center 240 grain 40/50 sabots over 100 grains of Pyrodex pellets ignited by Winchester or CCI 209 primers. I will be hunting open sights which are fiber.

I have not yet received the gun, but it and the supplies are ordered. I hope to achieve 2" groups at 50 yards which will be my self imposed limit until I get a few ML kills under my belt.

Good luck to everyone, happy hunting and safe shooting.

Thanks. I sold my 223 to buy the ML so I hope the yardage extends to around 140 yards after I add a scope next year. I am really interested in the Powerbelt bullets, but hear a lot about them blowing up. One of the guys who invited me shoots an Optima Pro and 295 grain Powerbelts over 100 grains Pyrodex and is getting 2" groups at 100 yards with a 1X scope. I will wait to see what happens to his bullets on game and stick with the proven sabots for now. I may even try the Plains Hunter Conical.
