Best place to retire?
« on: September 07, 2010, 03:57:26 AM »
Suggest to us the best place to retire.  Include a website that includes hunting of course.  The web has many sites that allow cities to be rated.

Its just too cold for us here in New England.  I would like a warmer spot where I can shoot and hunt and where we can drive to nice restaurants.  We have given up sailing so the ocean is no longer a need.  A safe area is important.

Thanks.

Florida the State of 100 Face's maybe a 1000
If you look into our Hunting Fishing,Tax's weather you'll not find
a Better State
If you don't care about our Waters go center State and stay right about
The Mouse you can But right and Hunt maybe right in your Back Yard
And no I don't want to hear about small deer and Hog eats better anyway
But if you  are concerned about Deer Bone look at the Racks coming from
Florida I think you maybe surprised also If you go toward the panhandle
Another Face and Beautiful

Don't know where in New England you are, Old Savage, but I retired 3 years ago here, and agree with you.  After 66 years of hoping winter would skip us this year, it hasn't happened.  Even when ol' Al Gore promised us global warming it hasn't happened except in the minds of the  liberal-socialist hippies who've now taken over the landscape.  Now we've not only got cold winters, but high taxes to boot!  Like you, I'm looking to make a move, and my house is up for sale--trouble is, no takers yet.

If you guys are looking for "perfect", I don't believe it exists on this planet.  And of course, "perfect" is going to be a little different for each individual.  I've been retired for nearly 8 years.  When I first retired, we intended to move to southern Nevada, or Arizona.  We searched those areas pretty thoroughly, but could never find a spot that we wanted to spend more than a few weeks.  For the last couple of years we've stayed a lot closer to home (Washington State) and we've been quite content with that.  We take a lot of shorter get-away trips to keep things interesting.

Anyway, I would suggest that you look into medical care fascilities in what ever area you are interested in.  You might think you're good at the moment, but be assured, you will be spending a bit more time with health issues as you go along.

Is that reference to Barbara Feldon's husband?  She was "99" on "Get Smart".

The answer to the OP is FLORIDA, GEORGIA, SOUTH CAROLINA, ALABAMA, MISSISSIPPI, LOUISIANA (re, ALL of the Southern States).  I am partial to FL and SC.  Soon though, with my son's relocation to GA, I will be rethinking that "short list".

Well Alabama of coarse and I will list some very good reasons.

We drink SWEET tea here!

We have Grits!

We have the #1 College Football Team in the nation!

Our children are still taught to say mam, sir, please, and thank you.

We have a many lakes, rivers, and even a beach!

We have Mt. Cheah!

Our summers are hot and our winters are cold, so we get the best of both worlds!

Want a website....there is a hunting in Alabama forum on this very site...somewhere! ;-)

Oh and best of all The Graybeard family is here! ;-)

If I had to live in Texas I guess Brownwood would be as good a place as any. I spent my first nineteen years in Texas and that was plenty. I'm happy for all of you that love Texas. Enjoy.

FL sucks and I've lived here for 35 years.  The hunting is the worst in the nation and the fishing isn't much better.  TN is where I'm going the first chance I get.

Well I happen to believe Atlaw is correct, and Heather is partly so.  Ga. or Ala. are good places to be, just remember "GO DOGS" when you're here.  It's pretty nice down in the Bayou state as well, and Texas has a lot going for it.  Florida has some good points, and some of the Yankee transplant population there have come along and made good southerners, but Ga. tops the list.
