A public "Thank You"...
« on: September 07, 2010, 05:18:51 AM »
As you all may remember, I'm in the Air Force and recently moved to San Antonio.  Hunting access is fairly difficult to find here.  GBO member "redhawksixsh" took me under his wing and invited me out to his place for a dove shoot this past Saturday.  Even though we had never met in person, he was gracious enough to make the offer.  He even arranged for the coolest weather of the summer AND for a bunch of doves to fly low and slow directly over me.  Thank You REDHAWKSIXSH!

I was quite happy with my opening shot.  One lone dove came in to start the morning and I managed to drop it with one shot.  Pretty decent considering I've done NO wingshooting for probably 5 years AND that was the first shot of any kind I've fired since last Nov/Dec before my shoulder surgery.  It went down hill from there before it got better.  I finally managed to pick up 11 birds with about 45 shots.  Not great by any means but better than I thought I would do for my first time out in a while.  I even strung together four one shot kills right at the end.  I really enjoyed the morning and the hospitality.  Best of all, I answered at least part of my questions about shooting/pain/shoulder strength and mobility.

Regards,
NGH

Good on redhawksixsh, and sounds like a grand time. I'd have enjoyed it, but the dove wouldn't have been in as much danger...
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

I always marvel at the generosity and openness of the shooting community.  Total strangers doing things like that.  Go to a range, admire someones rifle or pistol, and you will likely be offered a chance to try it, here have more ammo.  Having problems?  Let's have a look...hmmm...Ah, here!  I have a spring/screw/hoozywhanger that will fix you right up, let me put it in for you, won't take but a minute.  Pay me for it?  Are you crazy?  If you have to, just drop an extra buck or two in the collection plate at church.
