Price check for 357 mag 1894
« on: September 07, 2010, 07:30:27 AM »
I found a Marlin 1894 carbine 357 mag 18.5 inch barrel. blueing is a bit worn & theres a few dings in the plain jane wood stock. Im suspecting the barrel is cut down from 20. The barrel band is in front of the sight. So its in less than perfect condition. Not quite a junker. Price is $400 firm. Is that a descent price. Ive been looking for one of these for a while & almost snatched this up to day. What do you guys think.
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

As most will say. It's worth what ever you are willing to pay for it.
With that said, It is a bit high for your described condition, to me anyway. I picked one up for $400 in very good condition not long ago. I may have gotten lucky, some have said so.
As far as the barrel being cut, that may not be the case. They are made in 18.5" barrels and the barrel bands are located in front of the sights in some models. See link below.

I bought my .357 '94 new this Spring for $612.31 from a dealer in the Little Rock area. If yours is in good condition I'd say that's a good price.

Traded into one last weekend.  Cash price from Love's Guns was $439 at the SATEX Gun Show in San Antonio.

It was a new price.  The .44 1894 next to it was $20 less.  Mine has one wear mark on the back of the receiver on the top right edge just above the ejection port.  No sign of use on the crown.  No muzzle wear.  No scratches on stock.  No wear on butt pad.  The action was stiff and tight.  The sling swivels had no marks or wear on them.  Everything pointed toward the gun being new as advertised.  Came with box, papers, lock, hammer extension and allen wrench.  I gave up a bit in the trade but I didn't have the cash and didn't need/want the gun that I traded off.
