Glad someone likes the wheels. A general design I also incorporate in some motorcycle wheel balance machines I make. My true enjoyment is making cannons. I have a Lyle gun replica I am working on. But the Firecracker guys are for all my small relatives that don't need something so large at this time. I will get a video of my Thunder Mugs going one of these days. For now I have a case of crackers to use up. Maybe something on the fuses so I can get a little more range. I cut the load cracker fuse in half but seldom get more than 1/2 a second out of it.

Maybe paint all but the tip of the fuse so it can only ignite at the end?

I finished the set of 4 cannons today . I also tried to paint the fuses ,but the solvent killed the powder in the fuse . Had to use silicone instead and that worked good.

Tried a interesting paint treatment today . I painted one of my cannons with Rustolium Camo paint , sand color . then wiped it down with linseed oil. It changed the color to a light yellow olive and eliminated the finger prints in the mat finish.

My nephew now has the cannons , he is ten years old and right at that perfect age for imagination . It also helps that his mother's sister has a firecracker outlet so they gave him 1000 firecrackers . From the looks of it he got bit with the cannon bug bad.

I have always wanted to make a brass cannon . The size is not real big on the firecracker cannons , and I have the stock to do it . So thought I would give it a try , should be fun . Included are measurement for any one interested in scaling . Barrel 7in long x 1in dia , taper is 4in long x 2 deg per side 4 deg total. A interesting side note , if you make the last 1/2in of the bore on the breech end a snug fit on the firecracker , the firecracker acts as a effective seal . You can even fire BP in front of the firecracker without it coming back through the breech , very clean. Easy way to test is to wrap several layers of black tape around fuse end of firecracker for a snug fit and try it.

Check these outfits for wheels. Ex 49'r provided the last one. They have some nice small solid wood wheels that would work on navel carriages

Moose, those cannons are very cool, I really like them. Especially the paint work. I am side tracked in my work on FC cannons by the Florida BB mortar thread. Got my welding supply guy hunting down a scrap cylinder of correct size. But my love is the small stuff because it is so easy to use without huge grief from the neighbors. Good work again. Posting of ones work really helps give list members ideas. beech

The Florida BB mortar is a poor design...you can do better.

few weeks ago and sent the picture to a friend of mine that still
works where I retired from over 5 years ago and asked him if
he was interested in making one out of brass or stainless.

They not pingpong balls. they are white rubber balls off a shaker screen
in a soda plant.The bore is 1-1/4"

Drilled barrel out today , 1/4 in dia for 1/2 in long at breech and 5/16 in dia the rest of the way. The 1/4 in dia is a good snug fit for 1 1/2 in firecrackers.

Yes it could work that way . I use it to keep the barrel in alignment during assembly , it is removed to make room for fuse . The snug fit on the firecracker is meant to seal the breech effectively . Preliminary tests show that it even seals from blow back of added black powder

Ran a test today with a copy of quaker4u 's little mortar . With the firecracker hole at 1/4in and shooting a 1 1/4 in rubber ball , the firecracker sealed the touch hole and very little gas escaped . Will try it with added black powder to see if it will still seal .

Tested the firecracker mortar with added black powder and the firecracker still seals the touch hole. Used one 44 Mag case full of powder for shot . System looks like it is very versatile , kid friendly and still upgradeable .

Tig welded the base on today , it needs a little more feathering to blend in completely . It was the first brass objects I tig welded so I was pleasantly surprised how nicely they went together .

I had to redo the base because it ended up to big , this is a fit as you go project

. The base is now 2 in x 1-7/8 in

I was finally able to tig weld the barrel and polish it out , to see what it would look like . The tig welding rod is a different color then the base material , hopefully when it tarnishes a little it will be closer.
