New(to me) Model 7 - 243
« on: September 14, 2010, 12:11:08 PM »
I have a soft spot for short & handy rifles. I just purchased a Model 7 243 in camo with a reported less than 20 shots through it. The vintage seems like 2-3 years old. I don't have the SN yet. I only own one Remington, a custom 700, Shilen barrel & trigger. I have 'worked' 2 700 triggers in the past, one turned out well & the other was replaced. If this gun was made in 2008 or so, what type of trigger is most likely on it? Once I get it I will look it over & replace it only if I can't get it in the 2.5-3lb range or so. Anyway just looking for ideas on the trigger. Also, will any 700 trigger work in a Model 7? Thanks.

It looks like the Model 7 'Predator' with the 'X-Mark Pro trigger'. I think it's a 2009 model.

I believe the Predator was made (maybe still is being made) in both .22-250 and .243. Those are the only two I haven't bought yet. I'd love one in 7-08 and if I saw one would have to find a way to bring it home. They made the exact same rifle with different camo pattern in the larger chamberings like .22-250, .243, 7-08, .308 and maybe .260 Remington prior to introducing the Predator but discontinued them when they brought out the Predator. I passed on one of those in 7-08 planning to pick it up later and it was gone later. I've not seen another since. You will like it I'm sure.

I do like the 7mm-08 but since I am well stock in 308s & 243s I can make do without adding another round to reload. I came back into the 243 the last few years gearing up for the 'youth' hunt with my Son. I even took the vari-x-III scope off my 308 & put it on my muzzle-loader. I'll use the 284win if I need more horsepower than a 243.  This model 7 'predator' shows an overall length of 39" and is usually listed with a 22" barrel. The seller told me casually it has a 20" barrel, it is the predator model 7 & camo for sure. I do like the overall length but he may be off on the barrel length, possibly?

Yes sir, the predator model 7 has a 22 inch tube.  I love these model 7 conversations.  I have two model 7's in 7mm08.  One is ss with a 20 inch barrel.  The second is the ss model with the fluted barrel that they just made a couple of years, its a 7mm08, too.  Both of these guns are super accurate.  All I have done is adjust the trigger(typical 700 style trigger).  Both are not picky on loads, seem to shoot everything around a inch.  Particular handloads at 1/2 inch or less.  Have taken a pile of animals with the little rifles.
