You stole that package.  Great deal!!  I guess I'd start by taking the barrel off the frame and checking the number engraved or stamped in the underlug.  If it came out of the factory as a combo, the numbers on both barrels should match the last 3 digits of the serial number on the frame.  If they don't match, someone pieced it together.....not necessarily a bad thing.  Check the FAQs at the top of this H&R centerfire page.  The two letter prefix on the serial number will give you the year of manufacture.  Also, the twist rates are there.  Lot's of good info.  Most Handi .223s will hit whatever the shooter is capeable of.  Great find.  Good shooting.

Before I shot it I would make sure it is a SB2 frame. The 223 bbl may have SB2 on it but that don't mean the frame is a SB2.if the last 3 #'s on the bbl lug match the last 3 on the frame you are good to go. Go to the FAQ'S to get all the other information you desire . There are more answers there than you have thought of for ?? yet. Great buy though. Kurt

Yeah theres no 3 digit numbers on the shotgun barrel and the frame and the .223 barrels dont match which is pretty cool

Welcome to GBO! Sounds to me like you may very well have an SB1 shotgun with a 223 barrel, as has been said, you need to be sure the frame isn't an SB1 if you want to shoot the 223 barrel on it, doing so can be very hazardous to your health, compare the pics in the FAQs with the appearance of your frame, or call H&R (toll free (866)776-9292) and give them the serial number of the frame and ask what barrels can be fitted to it, if they tell you only shotgun, 357 and 44 mag, you have an SB1 frame which is made of cast iron and not intended for use with any high pressure rifle chamberings such as the 223 Rem, open the link below and scroll down to Can I put a rifle barrel on a shotgun frame?

If it's not on the correct frame, it is not safe to shoot!

If it's a shotgun frame don't shoot the 223 barrel on it. I did it before and it ain't a good idea. I got a pierced primer and a face full of hot gas and whatever else came out of there. My gun was stuck shut and I had to bang it over my knee to open it.
Learn from my mistake and don't make the same one!!
As far as the shotgun barrel... you can use either frame for them so if it fits properly and locks up you should be all set to use it.
Better to be safe than sorry... find out for sure what frame you have and go from there.
