Jal5, I live in NW Ohio within a few miles of Oak Openings park and the Maumee State Forest together they cover many thousands of acres and beleive me the rut is on now.
I drive these areas daily and walk my dog in the areas of the park off limits to hunting several times a week and have been seeing plenty of activity.
From your post it tells me you are mostly after trophy deer, Thats fine and I was once more of a trophy hunter myself.
I now take as many animals as I can, Since I have heart disease and the red meat of game is more healthy, I try to fill my freezers with as much game as I can. I have 5 antelope in the freezer now from ahunting trip last month and leave this weekend for a full week of bowhunting in Knox, Holmes, and Cochocton counties, I now hunt with a crossbow. When I started bowhunting back in the early 1970's I would only see a few other hunters in the woods and now its so competitive it's hard to find untrampled areas to hunt.
There are many more deer here in Ohio now than at any other time so I just put in as much time as I can in the woods and the law of averages makes for that chance of a trophy still a possibility.
Good Luck to all this year !! Jed
