Best Crossbow for a beginner to hunt with
« on: September 15, 2010, 07:38:27 AM »
Hi guys,
How are you all keeping?
I was wondering if some of you can give me some advice on choosing my first hunting crossbow, and to give me a little advice on what to look at when I am buying a crossbow, I know that I must keep a look out for customer services, warranties, but what else must I keep a look out for? Is Horton a good brand, or should I rather buy a Barnett, or should I buy a Excaliber?????
Due to some reasons, I prefer the recurve,BUT if the compounds are good I am not going to complain ;D
I cannot spend more than $500, because I have a middle man's budget, and thats why I can't really afford a recurve that is a good brand. I am looking at either a Barnett Revolution AVI, Barnett Wildcat C5 or a Horton, but I have hearded that horton is abit loud when shooting it. ???
I want a crossbow that will takedown a Gemsbuck or Springbuck with no problem.
What do you suggest????????

Thanks,
Bomber Boy

First off If you can not afford to do it right save up and buy a good set up, you will be better off in the long run

You need to think of why you want a crossbow. if you have an issue cocking it then you should get a tenpoint bow with the accudraw. almost anyone can draw a crossbow with that system.

or are you just getting one because you want one and can use it?  then the accudraw isnt as big a deal.
ten point and excaliber both make a great bow and they both have lower priced bows but ten point is  made in america as much as possable. to me this means a lot.

Exactly, Get an Xbow that fits you and if you have to, save up for a good one. Having said that, American made for you, Canadian made Excalibur for me lol.
Cheers  ;)

Fit is worth a LOT. I already know of one guy that lost his thumb this year because it was above the string when he held it.
Thanks,
