I think the first year for the model 7 was 1983. The first year for the 700 was 1962.

Are you sure,
I remember hunting with Dad in 1981 in Up State NY and one of the guys in his club had one.
I remember it as that was the year my mom died and we went hunting on Thanksgiving instead of grandmom's
Had the dog leg handle of the mohawk but he called it a model 7.

A 243 BDL sporter built in 1970 and a BDL varminter built around the same time chambered in 22-250.  The 22-250 shoots in the .3's (with 3 shots) regularly with the first and only load I've ever developed for it.  Maybe someday I'll try to work up a more accurate load but honestly I'm pretty happy with a shot group in the .3's.   ;D     Dave

Favorite rifle and my first centerfire is my 700 adl 6mm accurized by RW Hart.  Have a 17 remington, 204 ruger, 22-250, and 270.  Pops has a wicked accurate 7mm weatherby I'm after.

Bought a 700 Classic in 6.5x55, but it would never shoot as good as my sons Model 38 Swedish Mauser.    It shoot groups of around 1 1/2 to 2" at 100yards.   My sons Swedish Mauser shoot 1" or better at 100 yards.   The gun sat in my gunsafe for over 10 years.   A gunsmith friend suggested rechambering it for 6.5x284.   That was a great choice it now shoots well below 1" at 100 yards.    While at Fort Benning, GA, a sniper friend shot golf balls at 500 meters with the rifle.   He ran out and built him one too.   Every year he makes a trip to South Dakota and shoots prairie dogs.   I can't shoot that well, but the bullet has its long range capabilities.

Just brought home a 700 Tactical in .223. The X-Mark Pro trigger had been replaced with a Jewell trigger. Sweet!!!
Now I have to put a scope on it. Can't wait to try it at the range.
