The three that are my favorites are, a LH .338-06 with Douglas bbl., and custom french walnut stock.  A LH .280 Rem. with featherweight Douglas bbl. and custom New Zeland walnut stock.  And another LH chambered in .240 Wby Mag., with P.O. Ackley bbl., in a bedded/free floated Rem. BDL stock...

How do you like your 338-06?  I had one built this spring, I hope to devirginize it this fall.

I long ago lost count of how many Remington M700s and Model Sevens I've owned but the number by now is well over 100. Of course I don't still have them all and have had many duplicates but off the top of my head I can think of these I either used to own or still do and I won't differentiate whether I still have them or not.

.17 Fireball
.222 Rem.
.223 Rem.
.22-250

.243 Win.
.257 Roberts
.25-06
.257 Whby. Mag.
.260 Rem.
.270 Win.
7-08
.308 Win.
.30-06
.300 Win. Mag.
.35 Whelen

There are probably others I'm forgetting. I think I've had more .223s than any other and still own multiples of them. I've had at least 15 of those with the heavy barrel in all sorts of different variations. It would be a toss up really as to whether 7-08 or .30-06 will be the next in line but those two would definitely hold second and third place in what I've owned most of followed rather closely by .270 Win.

Those in blue I still have one or more of.

I built my first .338-06 in the 70's, it's worked very good on the brown bears, moose, caribou and other big game that i've used it on.  It doesn't get used much these days, as it's waaay more gun than i need to kill a deer, and that's mainly what i hunt these days.

Thats funny, I plan on using mine mostly for deer, and elk to though.  Just remember you can't kill a deer to dead, and heavy bullets do less damage to the eatin parts.

I'm thinking you should have built a 458 Win. Mag. then...  lol  I have NO problems at all killing them with a much less powerfull cartridge than my 338.

A BDL Varmit special in 6mm Rem. , Early 70's vintage. Does a 798 in 308 count?   ???

Just goes to show you what a great cartridge it is and how many people have good taste ;D  I think if I can ever find an inexpensive donor rifle I like to also have a 358 winnie on a model 700

Considering the problems the cartridge has, yes I am.

I hav'nt read too much bolt rifle problems with the 35 whelen.  Maybe an ammo primer issue and a break open single shot rifle issue though.  I thought it was the 400 Whelen where the shoulder was too small.

model 7 in 243 and 700 in 06.i like to keep it simple.i would consider buying one in 260 or preferably 6.5x55 if they made that. anything else i have no real use for.just got the 06 and love it, will blood it this deer season. the 243 is a proven killer over the last 25 yrs.

243 ADL Wood
257 Roberts Mountain Rifle
270 ADL Wood
280 BDL
308 BDL
308 VS

I really like the late 60's and early 70's guns because the metal work and finish is usually very nice.
