Does anyone know what guns Nate Champion is known to have used?

I have a couple of photos of Nate.  The only thing I can tell you is this. In both photos  Nate carried 2 Colt Peace Makers. As for as caliber I do not know.  I heard that he used a .44-40 rifle and handgun combo.  Many yarns were spun around Kaycee, Wyoming and the Big Horn Country.  You could hardly visit an Elk Camp years ago with out hearing a story about Nate or Tom Horn. Its a Wyoming thing you know.

Thanks. The reason I ask is because my dad has a nickle plated revolver with Nate Champion's name engraved on the backstrap.

Well that is most interesting.  The guns he is wearing in one photo looks like they are nickle.  They have what appears to be white grips.  That would mean ivory or pearl.  Do you live in the Rocky Mtns.?  How did your father come by the weapon.  Most interesting.

He acquired the pistol while on a trip 'out West' in the mid-nineties. I don't recall the grips. Sorry.  It's been about 10 years since I last handled it.  I also don't remember whether it is a Colt or a Remington.  All I do know is that using a jeweler's loop one can tell that the engraving is old and the normally sharp edges of the letters are worn.

Well there were and are  many Champions in the Powder River country.  You can imagine the name Nat is popular in that clan.  The best place to check this out would be the Johnson Co. Wyomming Museum in Buffalo, Wyoming.  This is the source for items from the Johnson Co. War.
