? on the FA BP derringers....
« on: September 16, 2010, 12:44:14 PM »
I have the opportunity to buy one of the FA black powder derringers. Black grips, SS frame, etc. In the vinyl, FA marked case, with a loading tool, instruction manual etc, but no nipples.

It's got a few minor scratches on the sides, and a turn line...though I doubt it's ever been fired.

 Serial is CO919X.

Any thoughts on what it's worth?

FN in MT,
The black powder was the last mini gun. They made around 4500 total that is 1 3/4" up to 3" barrel lengths. The price could be up in the high 300.00 range easy with a 1 3/4 barrel and belt buckle.

Wayne Baker charged me $400 for this one at the 2009 Jackson, WY 4th of July gun show.  I felt it was a decent price for a N.I.B. gun.  I also have this one in my collection.....

Though I am not really not that familiar with the mini-guns, I thought the cylinders were always fluted. Yours are really sharp--I just couldn't buy a gun solely for aesthetic purposes.

If you do actually shoot them, there are a few mini gun parts kits listed on Gunbroker currently.

Btw, there was one--a boot style--being sold locally. If you are interested let me know and I'll pass on the sellers info to you

It's the 1 3/4" bbl model as well.

Anyone ever SHOOT the  BP model??

Aesthetic purposes AND an Investment.   I've not seen the values go down, either.

Thank for the offer for a lead, but, I'll have to pass. I have examples of the three barrel lengths offered and that'll have to do.

Sincerely,

Resurrecting the thread... I have a the black powder NAA "Companion," which is substantially similar. It's a fun little piece.
I'm a big feller, and have big hands. Mine has a 1-1/8" barrel. I have to concentrate on keeping my fingers away from the muzzle. If a guy were sloppy, I think he could shoot himself in the hand pretty easily. That's no different than any other mini gun, and of course muzzle control is the first firearm safety principle.
Loading press mine came with looks kind of junky, but actually works quite well. Powder dipper for powder measure is quick and easy, though one needs to be sure there isn't any open powder container around when shooting.
Nipples from the NAA Companion are readily available, and I suspect they may fit the FA version.
In case you're near a Cabela's retail store- the Cabela's near me almost always has either nipples or bullets (or both) for the NAA Companion in their Bargain Cave.
