Million Moderate March on D.C.
« on: September 17, 2010, 06:48:21 AM »
Glenn Beck came to Washington D.C. last month to "restore honor." Jon Stewart hopes to "restore sanity" when he gets to the capital next month.

The Comedy Central host announced Thursday night that he will hold a rally at the National Mall on Oct. 30, capping a week of  "Daily Show" broadcasts from Washington.

Stewart says he's not looking for the seasoned rally-goer who may flock to hyper-political gatherings carrying an homemade Obama-is-Hitler--or Bush-is-Hitler-- sign. Instead, Stewart described the event as a "million moderate march" and a "clarion call for rationality"—in other words, an antidote to the overheated protests on the left and right.

BeerBelly was probably referring to me. IMHO Stewart is a freaking genius compared to Beck.

A moderate would be like...John McCain.  Or maybe standing for nothing, and everything....all at the same time.  A moderate "reaches across the isle" to keep alive the faint spitit of bipartisanship, which is what nobody needs and does us no good, it simply means willing to spend tax dollars on lots of dumb things and letting it be put in legislation, in order to get something else, that is probably just as worthless.

Moderate means in the middle, wishy washy, grey area's, nothing is really right or wrong, it's all debatable.

It's traveling to hell at a slower rate of speed.

I'd imagine the fence sitting mods will have a hard time decding if they are going to go or not. Like the Aaron Tippin song, "You've got to stand for something".
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

Moderation? Not a bad idea at all.

I used to be an ideologue, but I've had a change of heart on that. I, too, used to thing moderate was a dirty word - "they don't stand for anything!"

I'm done with ideology. Something I've noticed over the last year or so - people on the 'Right' are no diff, morally, than those on the left. Not a bit. I see the same sort of screed/hysteria/BS from 'Christian' gun owners and hunters on the right towards Obama, as I remember - and detested, at the time? - from the DailyKos idiots on the Left toward Dubya. Both equally shameful and self-righteous. Obama Derangement Syndrome is the flip side of Bush Derangement Syndrome - no moral diff.

Moderation is not a dirty word. And peeps should be able to disagree, without demonizing those they disagree with, or making them The Enemy. A lot of folks here should think about that, esp. those who are Christians.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

In my observation moderates tend to ride bandwagons. They seem to be unwilling or unable to develope an opinion on a devisive subject. You call on moderates to help you drink beer and fish, they are worthless when your car breaks down in a lousy neighborhood after ten PM.

At one time I would have called myself moderate.  I have become much more intolerant of what I percieve as wrong. Why should I put up with hoodlums? I don't care what there Momma did or did not do. All the streets that go into Detroit leave too. Pack your bags, get a bus ticket and get a job in Bismarck N.D.

The more of these rally's the better. People need to find out where they stand and who they are standing with. Jon Stewart is an entertainer just like Beck, just like Hulk Hogan. The message and delivery change to suit the targeted audience. My grandmother would not have spent money to see the Hulkster but she might well have done so to see Beck. My father hates both pro wrestling and Glen Beck but will TiVo Stewart. I'll watch all three and would maybe pay to see any of them. I believe most of Becks ideology but find all three entertaining.

Remember, this is all for fun folks. You should take something away from these rally's though, might be the fellow standing next to you has an idea. You may decide that Stewart is indeed funny but his "crowd" is diametrically opposed to your values.

I have not a clue how this moderation thing turned into a mix of religion, demonizing...and peeps?  ???  OK...what's a peep? I'm too old!

Let's start this again.  Moderation is not standing for anything because your a chicken sh*t, and are afraid to call things for what they really are or take a hard stand on something. Things are either right or wrong...right or left don't mean squat, those are political terms that could mean a hundred things to a hundred people, and believe me they do.  GREY AREA is often used by people who can't pick what's right or wrong....no grey area in most things going on in government.

Quote
people on the 'Right' are no diff, morally, than those on the left.

Not sure how morals got into this either....but as long as someone brought it up...morals can mean what anyone wants them to mean as well...it's all
debatable of course, like everything that gets twisted up in politics. Someone might think it's moral to keep an entire race on welfare, but in fact it's a horrble thing to do to human beings, look how many people claim they are moral in government.

Moderation is a cop out...the political words right wing, left wing, liberal, conservative, mean nothing anymore because so many people and the media twisted them up so bad nobody knows what they are supposed to mean anymore.  But moderate still has meaning....in politics it means not partisan or radical...but since we are talking about politics..nonpartisan is stupid, radical is what gave you this free country in the very beginning.  Moderation is taking it away slow and steady.

Note, if we are not talking about politics moderation has some value of course...but this whole thread is political and about a "moderate march"...
The march is dumb...congress has been MODERATE for many years...that's how you got where your at!

It seems that the idea of Moderate politics, moderation, is a stance from which one compromises between two points.
Seems that this ideal assumes common ground between what has become fairly extreme views.
In modern politics left vs right represents a broad disparity of logic.  If I stand on strong conservative principles where would the
common ground be with Sierra club, Green groups, Gay rights groups, Communists, Marxists, Socialists?

While Moderate(ion) might work in some cases, I can't see where it is needed much less prudent in most of the
issues facing our country today.

"idoit" That sounds like a fancy french word.

...probably...and would likely be pronounced "id-wah."  I wonder what it means?  Anyone here speak French? ;D

Heres what the urban dictionary said  -

1.    idoit    The mis-typed word "Idiot"
If you missed typed this word, you're an idiot.

2.    idoit    The way idiots spell "idiot".

3.    Idoit
At first appears to be typo of idiot, which usually is the case. But when placed at the end of the sentence it turns combined statement and insult due to being "I do it" squeezed together.

for example: Just download it. Idoit.

"Moderation" and "compromise" has saved many a marriage.  Are you always right?   Is your wife?

We've gotten so polarized politically in this country that we've forgotten that the good of the country should come before the narrow goals of vested special interests.

In the words of Mr. Spock: "The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few...or the one."

But you rarely see that kind of sacrifice these days.

If your talking about politics, you can always be right all the time.  If you were to vote for a bill that spent millions on the study of pig oder...for example. Always going to be no, yes is wrong all the time.

Husband and wife have nothing to do with it...she is going to be right, and that is that.   ;)  Nothing political there!  (she usually is right anyway)

You can always be right to vote NO on legislation that is bad and wasteful.  There is no in between, you are either broke and in debt or you are not. No middle ground on that.

Is any one person always right?  No.  I don't always like to admit that but I'm not always right.
Are politicians always right?  No.  However, this does not mean that there is no right and wrong but just a lot
of gray out there in the middle somewhere.

The Left, Middle and Right are all in the same boat generally speaking.  As a society, our modern culture has abandoned the idea that there are absolutes.  IMO this is why you see all of the above scrambling around like mad trying to find the newest trend to follow.

I fail to see the danger of polarization.  From my understanding of the history of this great country polarization has been a vital part of politics from the beginnings.  Think of the Federalist/Anti-federalist.  Nothing new.   One benefit that I see from polarization is that NO agreement can be made.  This seems to usually work out best for the people because of the resulting gridlock and nothing "being accomplished" by our leaders.

I'm looking forward to the new crop of Pols that appear to be on the cusp of being voted in this fall.  I'm hoping to see principled thinkers who will stand their ground and vote up or down and not be tempted or coerced into "finding that middle ground".   A lot of middle grounding happened under Bush the II and did nothing but hurt the country.

Unless that porker is attached to another lets say good beneficial bill that has nothing to do with the study of pigs. That's the problem. individual Crap amendments allowed to be attached to good bills to bring porker spending home to a legislators individual states.

So as a legislator do you take a "moderate" stance and compromise with a yes vote to pass the main beneficial bill knowing someone is getting a porker bridge to nowhere at the same time?, or do you vote no and never get any good legislation passed.

The only way this will ever be fixed is to outlaw earmarks in budgets and outlaw unrelated amendments being attached to main piece of legislation that is trying to be passed.

For example . Separate the don't ask don't tell amendment from the defense budget.
Vote on the defense budget.
Then bring up an individual bill to be debated and voted on pertaining to Don't ask don't tell.

Don't squish the two together and force everyone to vote on two unrelated issues.  The outcome is all the noise "he/she doesn't care about the soldiers because they didn't vote yes on main defense  budget. (pure political games) .

Ahh don't you love quid pro quo.

I have more respect for a SOB like obama than I do for a fence sitting moderate that stands for nothing.
Even if i think obama is the worst thing to hit this country since small pox and venereal disease , he at least believes in what he is doing.  He may be a lying, America hating Socialist, wealth spreading, race bait-er, but he is acting on his beliefs. And he thinks he can afford to because his offspring will never face the reality of what he is trying to accomplish here. they will be insulated and protected by the wealth he is building while destroying the wealth of this country at the detriment of my children!
You compromise your future when you compromise your values.
