flaflash,
I don`t have one in a 222/12ga but do have one in a 30-30/12ga with synthetic stock. My daddy had one in a 22/410 which my brothers and I shot all during our teen years. It was pretty well used by the time we got grown. I have always like these combination guns and think that in the "SHTF" scenario
they might come in pretty handy! The only problem would be hauling shotgun shells, but still think it would prove to be a very viable weapon in that type of situation. I like the versatility of shooting fowl or beast!
With mine, low velocity cast bullet loads in the 30-30 and field loads in the 12ga makes for a pretty good squirrel hunting combination. For deer hunting in the heavy forest or thickets in E.Texas a good 30-30 load and slug or #! buckshot does a good job on deer. During duck season ,hunting along creeks , squirrels, ducks and the odd bobwhite can be added to the bag. I like`em!

i agree!!! i have the 12ga/223 and i like it for turkey ( mainly) deer and hog,not to mention cyotes (using 45 gr 223 at 3600 fps)
FYI  the 22 hornet and the 223 barrel sets will fire on your 30-30 receiver
the 24 v 20ga/30-30 i have is a fine little shooter and you can put 3 different barrels on it to
try a box of remington accelerator 30-30 in your gun i think you'll find a new friend rite quick

  He asked about a Savage 2400, i bet your's isn't a 2400.

The 2400's were built by Valmet, and were as close as Savage ever got to selling a combo gun that was actually built the way a combo gun should be built.

  Here's my 2400 in .222,

They ARE pretty nice combo guns, VERY accurate, and you can regulate the rifle bbl. to where ever you want it.  They even have QT scope mounts, the only thing lacking is double triggers!   :'(

I've swaged lots and lots .224 bullets out of 22lr rimfire caseings, makeing "solids" out of them.  I'd load them to around 1500fps, and shoot small game with them.  I've shot quite a bit of small game with that gun/load.

Eventualy, i moved up to a Valmet 412 with several sets of bbls..

Unless you are in Canada and a Canadian citizen I don't think you can buy or trade with anyone there. Since 9-11 things are a bunch different than they used to be.

I never have had any dealings with that company, and you can buy/trade with Canada companys, BUT! it's one heck of a lot of work, doing all of the import/export paperwork!  Probably not worth it unless you were dealing with a very expensive gun.

Flaflash, I bought a savage 2400 a few years ago in 12ga/308. It came damaged in shipping so the seller refunded my money but I sure liked the way it felt and handled. I've been looking for another but they are scarce. I am having some health problems and recoil has become a issue so I would probably prefer one in 243 if I could ever find one.  ;)

I'd say, if you saw them advertised in .243 Win., you were lied to.

  I've got a couple 412's in 243....   :)
