Hornady XTP Difference

I'm looking online at the XTP and I see HP and FP-HP. Is there a difference in the bullet?
I know many here have used the 158gr and 180gr XTP with the 357mags and Maxi with good to great success. I know online catalogs and pictures can be deceiving at times, but both bullets look the same to me.

The FP is used for the higher velcoity levels.  For example I've found the .357 125 gr XTPFP at 1600 fps (6" barrel) to be excellent on small to medium size deer.

Design wise, they are very different. In shape and length. I have both in the 158 gr. and will see if I can get a picture of the two side by side so you can see the difference.

I want to work up a deer load soon. I know the 180gr XTP would be a better choice, but there hard to find right now.
Will the 158's work on deer or will the maxi be pushing them to fast to perform correct?
Also looking for SSP's in 180gr. or Speer gold dot SP.
I have plenty of 180gr MBC cast, but will need gas checks if I'm gonna maxi them.
I need to lay in a good stock of bullets. In 4 months we won't be able to buy reloading componets on the internet in the
ass backwards state of California I live in. I"ll need to drive 3 hours to Reno to buy componets after the fact.

Hornady's chart on their website shows 1400 fps as the upper limit for the 158 XTP.

That is correct, for the 158 gr. HP-XPT #35710 but for the 158 gr. FP-XPT #35730, the Maximum Velocity listed by Hornady is 1800 fps.
