Sept. 15 was the opener for many deer areas in Western Wyo. so I headed over there for a few days hunting...we got settled in late the evening before season...since I had hunted the area before I knew where I was going in the morning..The first day was unevenful..saw some does, no bucks, and the morning of my second day was much the same..but as I was walking back to the pickup along a little trail I looked up on the mt...it was a steep slide area that had grown over with brush, and some downed timber...the first thing that caught my eye was movement...then I spotted it...a nice sized, maybe even a large, brown phase black bear walking on a log across the opening..I dropped prone, flipped the bipod down on the 700, and centered the crosshairs behind the shoulder.........but I never chambered a 115 grain Nosler Part. into the .25-06...this year for the first time in years, I didn't do any spring bear hunting..so I didn't buy a license..Just before leaving, I thought about it, then decided since I would only be there 3 or 4 days...I wouldn't get a license..the quota fills fast in my home area, and I would only need or be able to use the license while I was hunting deer in the western part of the state...Stupid mistake on my part.....
But a good move for Mr. Bear.....
Last time I saw him he was waddling up the mt..and he didn 't even look back........
