Point me to the "Ladder Method" of load development.
« on: September 20, 2010, 10:18:25 AM »
I know it has been discussed on GBO somewhere.  Link me to it please.

I am going back to load/accuracy development on my Handi-357 Mag with replacement bull barrel.  It is time to wring the accuracy out of that combination without "breaking the bank" (like last time)...even though I had a real good time shooting it with an inaccurate combination of bullet/powder/barrel.

I have seen two guns damaged due to the owners using the Audette Ladder method. I DO NOT blame the method!! Those guys were trying to save money and time and maybe components. They did NOT stop at obvious pressure signals like hard bolt lift or flattened primers. Preferring to run ALL the loads thru the gun instead. ALWAYS pay attention to pressure signs.A nice Browning or model 70 shoudn't be damaged to save money. Both of these guys had loaded 20 rounds in small powder increments. The 17th round of one string was difficult to eject and the shooter continued to fire the others. Resulting in a damaged bolt and ejector in the Browning 30-06. The other gun was a 7mag of foreign manufacture. The bolt was bent and the barrel burst on about the 16 th shot.
