new buffalo classic owner!!!!
« on: September 20, 2010, 03:16:00 PM »
I went to a local gunshow this past weekend and acquired a brand new Buffalo Classic 45-70...have wanted one for like 15 years.....I think I will use it for deer hunting this year here in Maine, but now i need some good loads for it. I have 350grain JHP bullets, 385 grain cast, 405 grain cast and a few 405 grain jacketed soft points. I usually use sr4759, Imr 3031 or Imr 4320 for powder.

Welcome and congrats on your purchase!  I just took a deer with my .45-70 BC.  My goto loads right now are 46.7 gr. Reloader7 and a 325gr. Hornady Interlock HP or a 325 gr. FTX bullet.  I'm sure the 350 you have would be good on deer and such.  The bigger bullets might have to be seated deeper than standard depending on the throat you have.  Mine can barely take the 325 interlock without seating past the cannelure.  A lot of the guys here rent a reamer and had ream them back about 1/4" to be able to use the bigger bullets.  I intend to, but don't want to mess something up so haven't done it yet.  I don't use any other powder with it now, so don't know about your powder choices listed, but the Reloader7 is about 7 bucks cheaper a pound here and burns VERY clean in these long barrels.  Might be something for you to try out if you get the desire.  I have down loaded to trap door levels using 34.3 gr. RL7 and gone as high as 52 gr. which has a pretty stiff punch.  I get great accuracy though from my 46.7 gr. loads and plenty of power.  8)  Good luck.
