Tim,

I beleive you're right!  It probably a 357/20 combo without the 357 barrel.

thanks!

Jason,

Just got the scope in today.  Here's the pic you asked for:

Bigger pic: http://home.mchsi.com/~kgoble/scope-.jpg

It's hard to see, but there is about 1/8" clearance between the scope and hammer.  Is this the best way to mount everything?

Also, I noticed the guns are back up to $199.99 on the Gander Mountain website.  I also had a $10 coupon, so I got mine for $169.99!

My friend came over tonight and we mounted the scopes.  His lock-up was real stiff, maybe it will loosen up some after shooting.  We're going Saturday to shoot some Hornady SSTs.

My tracker II 20ga didn't like the hornady sst or the barnes federals. Best advice I ever got regarding rifled slug guns was to buy a bunch of different sabots and shoot them for group size before you even start sighting in. Mine likes the Lightfield hybrid express 2 3/4" follow closely by buckhammer 2 3/4"

Nice kng, thanks for posting those pictures up. I'm a little worried that you may have you scope mounted too far back, but I can tell that's all you can do so it clears the hammer. From what I've been told you normally want the back of the scope line up vertically with the back of the trigger guard on the gun. Hopefully you have enough eye relief so you don't get bit by the scope.

I plan on getting my scope from Cabela's this weekend and am going with the Redfield Revolution 2x7. I'll post up pics of it too when I'm done mounting it. I also bought Lightfield exp. and Buckhammer slugs to see which one shoots the best. I hope the Buckhammer's do since I can find them for 6 bucks a box.

Does anyone know what size limbsaver slip-on will mount on the synthetic stock?

The Banner is a good scope, but due to the larger ocular bell and power ring, it will require high or extra high rings or extensive hammer modification. The Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 shotgun scope isn't a bad choice, neither is the Redfield Revolution 2-7x32, both have ~4" of eye relief and can be mounted in medium rings, maybe low after removing the tip of the hammer spur above the extension, about $100-$130.

You can also add a Limbsaver prefit pad, the #10011 for the Tikka T3 will fit pretty good with one new mounting hole in the pad, the prefit for the syn Handi(old style)doesn't fit well.

Hmmm...haven't heard that.  That's about where the back of the scope is on all of my H&R's.

Went to the range today.  The medium rings are not tall enough.  I was NOT able to cock the hammer with the hammer extension on.  My friend was able to on his gun.  I took the extension off for now, but plan on getting at least high rings.  I was satisfied with the performance from the SSTs.

I also shot my .308 and 45 LC for the first time.  I was happy with their performance as well.

Remove the tip of the hammer spur above the extension, I use a dremel, but a file will work.  ;)

I bought a used tracker II with a prodiamond mounted on a homemade rail, since i don't like optics on my shotguns i removed it, and mounted it on my .357 with the factory rail, it sets about half an inch ahead of the hammer ( no need for spur) and still has pleanty of eye releif.  As Tim said get a limbsaver, the reason they cost so much is because their worth it.  Good Luck,  John

I ordered the Leupold high rings (55870) and installed them tonight.  They are significantly taller than the Medium rings.

They look much taller, and seem like they are a little high when viewing, but I'll take them to the range this weekend.  What do you think?  At least I can put the hammer extension on now.

Jason,

Did you ever get yours mounted? How 'bout a pic?

thanks,
-Kyle

Sure did, sorry about the delay.....

I took it out for a trial shoot and wasn't very please with the Lightfields, nor the Buckhammers. Gonna try the Horniday SST's this weekend and see I can do a little better. I love the Redfield scope with the medium high rings, mounts on the gun beautifully IMO.

Jason,

You are right, that set-up looks great!  I didn't realize that when I ordered the ProDiamond it's only 9.5" long.  The close hammer/scope clearance on your gun, and the fact that my hunting partners cleared, made me try the Medium rings one more time.  With the scope ring all the way back in the groove on the rail, and the scope all the way to the rear, it clears!  It is much more confortable to look through as well.

Thanks for the help!  Good luck with the SSTs.  We didn't shoot many, but had good results.

You could maybe try a thinner scope rail (the Weaver is) which will bring it down with the higher rings.

The gun you guys are talking about I seen at my local Gander Mountain a month ago I asked the gun department manager how they have a synthetic stock ULSH and he said its a special make for exclusive to Gander Mountain and that the tracker 2 on it was normal. Thats just what I was told and from the prices ive seen on other tracker 2's and USH 12g and 20g's the 179.00 price is a good price for this gun.

We kinda figured that about 4 months ago, thanks.  ;)

Distributors and big dealers like Gander can do special orders of 250 firearms or more, the syn stock set on the Gander shotgun is the new style synthetic stock, the model number isn't on the H&R website because it's a special order, but it's likely the same barrel that comes with the 357/20ga combo.

How far was she?

She was only about 40 yards when I shot. I lured her in with a fawn in distress.

That's good news the fawn distress call worked for ya, my son and I tried the Primos Fawn Bleat and Bawl last season, didn't work at all on blacktails and I know there were does within earshot upwind of me, real close several times.  :-\ What call do you use? Maybe a different call would work better.

thx,

We've had Whitetail in WI come in to a hen turkey call; they seem to let the turkeys (with exceptional eyesight) run point for them here.

I bought it off of one of the members (catwhacker) on the predatormasters.com forum. It's a closed reed call made from antler.

I had one of the first ULSH off the line and it had a bbl that was marked Pardner 20ga it had the Ultragon rifling. Was a 2007 prefix that didn't leave the factory til 2008. From Gardner though IIRC. Kurt   Maybe the person I sold it to on here will chime in.
